this is the original ..

this ended up being very hard to process ... like wot direction to go and all the crops i tried just didnt feel right .. i wouldnt have touched this in a basic or advanced edit ... i ended up doing an expert edit coz i had to move the kangaroos a bit and make them larger and warp image ... to me it didnt work any other way, and i'm not that happy with the result ..
these were my processing steps ...
processed once in RAW for a lighter copy and combined with jpeg file ... selectively erased in jpeg so lighter trees showed thru, then merged two layers ...
did new layer with linear gradient fill to give a bit'v depth to blown out sky & balance with foreground, and erased where it overlayed the vegetation .. (to combine the darker sky with the lighter vegetation wld've been too time consuming)
warped image so telegraph pole wasnt skew .. selected kangaroos and made them bigger and moved them more to centre of image .. cropped ..
did adjustment layer and desaturated everything except yellow ...
desaturated everything in layer except the green ...
cloned tree from lhs and put over pine which was like a big black lump of nothing ... and made opacity 59% .. cropped again ..
desaturated gradient sky, (which i'd initially had a very dark blue but very faded out with opacity ...)
i then duplicated image and merged everything so i could do kodak airbrush coz i had too many different layers, like kangaroos and gradient sky etc ...
did kodak airbrush ...
did vignette and erased most of it just keeping a bit on the top of image ...
did usm and resized ... did smart sharpen and border and saved for web ...

You are making me want to learn how to do the Photoshop magic. What started as just an unremarkable image with potential has been turned into a solid keeper by your skills with the "fix it" toys. The final image conveys the sense of wild and civilization overlap that you were seeing very well.

Roz, this photo is so interesting! Definitely unusual and eye-catching. You did a great job with the PP - that took some creativity. The whole thing now has an alien/vintage look. I like it!
