the land to the west of us is owned by one of the richest men in the province. he has a hobby cattle farm, and has just finished clearing another section of trees to enlarge his grazing area. this is the pile of tree roots burning. his land goes right up to ours, so i'm hoping this clearing will be the end of it...

this used to be a lovely chunk of woods. sad.

thats sad that he's clearing so much land for his cattle. you do capture an amazing photo. you have the glow of the burning tree roots in the foreground and the setting sun in the background!

This is a nice hommage to the woods, the single cloud in the sky is a nice touch.

It is a sad thing. However, you made the most of it by grabbing the camera and getting a really nice photo from it. I really like how the glowing coals and the sky colors match.

Powerful image and story. I don't know if I'd know it was tree roots without the narrative. The glow from inside is quite something.

Wonderful - love the embers on the inside - looks like a furnace.

Nicely captured. I like this photo. Sorry you didn't want it to burn. Everything happens for a reason.

I hate it when trees are cut down, they take so long to grow! But you got a good photo.

It is sad when forests get cut down :( But this is a really neat photo. The glow from the flames and the sunset sky. It just draws you in and makes you want to keep looking at it.

The little critters will sure miss their homes, and you will miss the woods nearby too. At least they do not remove every tree when they clear for pasture in this area. Good shot of the fire.

great story in this. well, in a relative term anyways. The story is all too common. Pave paradise, put up a parking lot and build a couple houses/stip mine the land for oil.

Great technicals and I just love the sky offsetting the dark bottom.
