Cemeteries have always been very sacred to me, a place to respect and honour those that were there before us and that have departed this world.

This photo is of the grave of Alma Paulson who was one of the 1513 victims of the Titanic sinking on April 15, 1912. This shot was taken at Fairview Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada where 121 victims of the Titanic disaster are buried. Most of the bodies that were buried at Fairview were crewmembers and Third Class passengers. There are a few Second Class passengers and one First Class Passenger. There are a further 19 victims buried at the Mt. Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery in Halifax.

I chose to take a picture of Ms. Paulson’s headstone since it also indicated that her four children also perished in the sinking. Her youngest child, Gösta, was initially unidentified at time of burial. By sheer coincidence, mother and son have come to rest only a few feet apart from each other. Little Gösta's grave marker lies just behind his mother's headstone. At the time they were placed, Gösta was only known as the "unknown child."

This is a lovely shot, the black and white works very well for this, the angle is also well done, the way the headstones lead down through the shot is very well done. The overall shot seems a bit dull though, maybe just a touch more contrack to make it pop a little more? Just a touch. I started this at a 6 but am going to an 8

How very sad this feels. Black and white is perfect for this, and I like the perspective of your shot.

What really adds to this photo to me are the leaves on the ground, which give a lovely texture and evokes things that are not square like the stones...I'm still thinking about it but to me they are key to this image's success. Nice mood and tones, too. Well seen.

Good composition, leads the eye through the frame. Shame there is no pay-off for following it back though. Feels like something is missing.

I like your picture a lot. Took the shot from a very interesting perspective and I like that you can actually read the first tombstone. The composition is great and I like that you did it in black and white. The fall leaves also make their own statement and add greatly to the shot. Well done. Out of curiosity -- where is this memorial?

I like the curve of the path and the dusting of leaves, nice composition. It gives a sense of the imense loss, a somber place. Nice to be able to read the closest stone, we canextrapolate for the others, but it makes it more personal. 8

The ground at the left of the photo makes this too untidy. Would have been better to crop it off. 4

How very very sad :( Have never seen one of these. Nicely taken photo, I like the way the point of interest is over to one side.
