I am not a chess player --- but this shot is interesting. Is the position significant? Sorry for being clueless on chess.

the black pawns are too cluttered and your shadows tend to fade out the meaning of your work rather than any consequences of the game. Your title sparks interest mainly because it seems that the picture is hiding some sort of meaning. work harder to bring that meaning out. be creative and unafraid to explore what you want to do with your camera. once you've got an idea of how to capture your meaning, satisfy yourself further by playing with spacing.

Like the montone in this....you could have used a lot less pieces. Also the focus on some of the pieces appears soft. but OK you may not have been able to avoid it. But the it does look a might cluttered and the pieces are covering up some nice shadows. Perhaps you did not want them in the shot? I wish they were there.

This shot is lit beautifully, and I love the sharp focus on the chess pieces. Nice job!

I haven't played chess in years so I couldn't even understand the moves here. The shot is a good idea for this challenge but the finished product is a bit wanting. On a shot like this I would expect to see clarity, sharpness and more defined light, brightness, contrast. The angle is nice and DOF isn't bad but the front peices are a bit too fuzzy for my taste. A 4
