I caught this Hawk flying by me and took a few shots continuously, I like this one the best..

Wow I am really happy with my finish here. Though this ended up being a slightly controversial shot, As I was really excited to post my first entry I realized later that to get a shot within the time frame that fits the description perfectly can be hard. Thanks to all who voted and commented though most were about the panning issue, I do appreciate everyone for taking the time to comment period..

Beautiful colors and capture! As stated before, more of a stop action than a motion panning. 32nd out of 128 is a great finish under the circumstances. :)

Great capture & colors. Back to bump you up to 8.

there's no real motion panning here...the bird looks like it's hovering and the bg is static...great image, but not for this challenge
01/23/2007 02:40:54 AM
Great picture, but this is a Brokeh effect... not blur/motion...

While I am sure you were panning to capture this, there really isn't anything to show me there is really any motion. A slightly slower shutter speed or the background being a bit closer would have yielded motion.

Great photo, no panning effect.

This is more stop action since the background has such bokeh and you can see the lens is not panning. However for a capture of a hawk it is an outstanding shot.

Wow, This is my fav. Great Capture

Good shot, though the depth of field becomes a bit of an issue as ever with birds of such a wingspan.

Wow. Awesome shot! Unfortunately, it's not motion PANNING and doesn't meet the challenge.
01/21/2007 05:16:52 AM
nice shot but it could be hovering aswell.. no motion here!
01/21/2007 04:51:53 AM
It's a cool shot. But i can't reall see that it's the result of panning (the wings are too sharp for one). It looks just like shallow DoF.

Seems to be more of a DOF picture than a motion blur. Nice pic anyways..

nice capture, but from a dnmc standpoint, the background blur appears to be more from a shallow dof than from panning. who knows, that's just how it appears to me. feel free to ignore me.

Nice sharp photo, but it appears that the effect is more Bokeh then Panning

It sure is a nice capture, but it doesn't look like a motion pan to me?

beautiful image, but is the blurring in the background due to DOF or panning?

This photo has a lot going for it. I like the bird, the colors, the light, the nicely out-of-focus background (shallow DOF), but one thing I don't see is evidence of motion panning (where the subject is in focus, and the background has the tell-tale streaks).

it has probably already been said, but I will say it anyway....this is a good capture of a bird in flight, but the background kust looks like bokeh rather than motion panning.
and that could hurt your score.
I should know, it's hurting mine :-)

That's a nice capture but I don't get any sense of motion to this.

There's no motion blur here... just regular bokeh. A nice shot, otherwise.

Looks more like arrested motion and bokeh. Have to give it 6 for being so damned good.

Great photo, good DOF, but the background doesn't have that motion blur that i think it really needed for this particular challenge.

centered well and great action shot! Gr8. 8

This appears to be more shallow depth of field than pan...

A good clear shot on the bird, though not a whole lot of evidence of panning.

Beautiful capture of a beautiful bird. The question for me is whether it shows motion panning or motion capture.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/17/2007 12:39:17 PM
Incredibly nice stop action image. Colors, lighting and exposure are right on. (Of course that could be accomplished with RAW image processing from the original. lol!) Nice sharpness and excellent perspective on the hawk.

The image looks to be soft focused rather than motion panned. It does not show much background motion. That is probably because you took it at a fast shutter speed even though you obviously were panning the bird. Some voters will probably fault this fine image for that in this particular challenge.

I would consider this more a bokeh than panning...the photo is exceptional and beautiful, it's hard not to score it high...

looks more like stopped motion shallow dof to me nice moment tho

It's a good photo with great DOF, but other than very slight blur on the outer feathers, I don't see any motion blur in the background.

This is a GREAT shot, but it appears to me to be more a shallow DOF shot, rather than the background having been blurred due to motion panning.
