oooohhhh. so close.

thanks for all the comments and for the few people that have been curious...
I did shoot while the car was moving. i put a tripod on the bonnet of the car (i did a practise run without the camera to make sure it wouldn't fall off... and i wedged 1 x tripod leg in the windscreen wiper gap).
i used 2 x canon flashes (wirelessly with the ST-E2 transmitter) sitting on the bonnet, against the windscreen right in front of each person... but aiming diagnolly at the other person (to avoid the flattening of frontal lighting.
With the camera set on timer, i ran and sat in the drivers seat and drove really slowly. 6 sec exposure for the light trail... and the flash bursts to expose for car interior.

i spent 2 hours on a different idea that looked crap. i thought of this idea on the way home and and only spent 15 minutes. in hindsight, i wish i had not rushed it and got it sharper.

Technically this is simply excellent, a real tour-de-force. It's also a very amusing take on a universally recognized battlefield of the war between the sexes, so it's not surprise you got a high finish. In fact, I had it in my personal top 3. Good job!

I have to say that this was my preferred winner...but a great picture...I didn't get to vote on this challenge as I was away overseas, but this was outstanding...the expression on her face is perfect

Great!
This is soooo true!
Most women even get lost with a navigation computer. :)

Not sure if I like the implication of this! I, for one, am great with maps! That being said, ;) I like the expressions, it's a cute but the overall quality seems a bit low such as her face being out of focus.

Creative shot, just wish the woman was in better focus.

Personally, this seems more like a cliche about women than a battle of women against men. Nice photo though - good expressions and lighting - solid technicals.

i really like this. the motion is great, not too much, just enough. Their expressions really add a lot to this. just everything just fit in this photo, composition, perspective. The light on the subject is crucial in this photo and im glad that it was done as such.

I so relate to this. My wife is the ultimate in navigation software. LOL

Ooohhhh that is SO unfair! I am a fantastic navigator, yet my husband can't tell his left from his right (and I'm not exaggerating). But don't worry, I'm not about to mark you down for that, I do like your photo.

I'm guessing a man took this. 6

This one challenges me. It feels off center/titled, but the motion blur and gold tone may be an illusion in the making. Nice expressions and framing.

I am really interested to know how this is shot so clearly while there is still motion in the background. I love it!

01/15/2007 01:58:34 AM
Aaw its too bad there oof and the background is a little TOO in focus the concept is great! a little more planning and perhaps a few more shots would have yeilded a better picture i think, though im sure this took alot of work. 6 for the great concept.

excellent shot, excellent composition, great pp ... but hey, i'm the navigator, and i'm a woman!! =9

01/15/2007 12:23:14 AM
Cool...I like how the sides are blurred and show the motion. The only thing I can think of to make it better is to have the girls face sharper, which was probably hard to do.
