Challenge: Match (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Date: Jan 13, 2007
Date Uploaded: Jan 13, 2007

I tried a couple of things with reflections in Aimees eye, but none of them were obvious enough to fit into this challenge. This was my second idea. I have full face version that I will stick in my portfolio afterwards. Not sure how this one will do. The match is not centered on the horizon but my face is, my face is cut off, the picture is quite dark and the match flame is blown - these are the complaints I expect. The match is not centered on thehorizon but my face is, my face is cut off, the picture is quite dark and the match flame is blown - these are parts of the image that I like. Probably not a good thing huh.

Post challenge - pleased in general with my placing. Though I lost .07 in rollover which kind of hurts. Thank you all for your votes and comments.

Well, you know me...the fact the match is blown actually works here - doesn't bother me at all. To have it NOT blown would make your hand too dark. The toning is excellent. Overall execution is excellent and I need you to give me lessons in the framing part. Definitely works with the half face better, in my opinion. A shot that I think stands exceptionally well on it's own, too.

Gave this a 10, one of my favorites from this challenge - should have ribboned, IMO, but 5th isn't bad!

Nice. Much more interesting than all of the matches against black background shots.

A simple strong image. though I think it may have been more striking darkened and cropped to lose the body and face and leave just a hand appearing from the darkness.

Something (lighting I think) very elegant about this image. Good Job. 8

Since I had several 8s tying, I bumped you up as the "winner" with a 9.

Great job!

Great lighting, and I really like the way the head is cut off at center. Makes for an interesting perspective.

The eye is drawn directly towards the light, almost hypnotizing.

The centered composition works nice, helps to explore the entirety of the image, including the blured background which provides good contrast.

One of the few match shots I like. Love the deep tones. Great frame too.
