A good idea, though maybe not as effective as you would like for two key reasons.

First of all, the flower isn't quite large enough to stand out, and is too small to have any discernable detail. You could have taken the shot from a closer and lower angle, yet still emphasized the flower and increased the contrast between it and the rest of the scene.

Another means of achieving contrast is through the use of contrasting shapes. Again, there isn't sufficient difference here for the flower to stand out. The leaves grab too much attention on their own.

Overall, the colors in the leaves are too bold to allow you to realise your idea here. The flower is simply swamped by everything around it. Going in close and low is probably your only solution, since you can't achieve a shallow DOF with your camera.

I think the full large shot would do this alot more justice than the shrunk down version you had to submit ( it seems more fitting for the all alone challnge though ) - I think it could be a little punchier by bringing the levels up a little bit more too. Good shot none the less :0)

Nice fall image, I like the bright spots of color from the yellow and still green leaves. Lighting is good, as is focus. I'm not getting a huge infinite feeling from the image, though I do see the connection - I think if it were cropped a bit more on the top that feeling would be stronger - towards the top it looks as if the leaves are thinning out. Very nice photo. 6

Good idea, I like it a lot, but need to change title. IMO - A needle implies just one needle or flower. A haystack implies just one haystak to your infinite amount of leaves. Also, focus is off a bit.

Interesting theme but maybe a bit weak subjectively for my personal taste...

This would be much better if it was more in focus. Love the idea.
