Setup included whiteboards, overhead fluorescent light, halogen desk lamp, 650 watt flood (hand held). Used stacked close-up filter set, tripod, & remote.
Converted from RAW. Generated HDR in Photomatix from 5 different levels of exposure on same original RAW file.
PP done in both MS Digital Image Pro 10 & PS 7. PP included NI, gaussian blur (background only without shells), blend brush to clean up a few spots, levels/curves, dodge/burn brush, contrast, sharpen, save for Web. |

I like the star and shadow. The out of focus shell towards the back doesn't add all that much IMHO, it maybe even confuses the image. The horizon line (edge of table or whatever) is not straight, and it isn't slanted enough to be intentional. I wonder how it would be to have an image of just the star on white, with shadow (experiment with light to get the best shadow), no horizon line. ~5 |

Very good details on the foreground starfish. I understand your use of DOF to make the background shell an item of interest but not the primary. The big thing that holds this back for me is the seam from wall to floor (back to bottom, however you want to label it...). Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

Hmm - I guess there were more than a couple of these shots... Maybe I should have tried to be more creative! =)
I think your shadow under the starfish is a little harsh, and the fact that the other shell is out of focus seems odd. |

The dissecting line where the base meets the background spoils the overall effect of this. |
