This picture was taken on the day I stumbled upon this site. Yes, Ethan is extremely new here (12 hours old). It was taken in Hospital with damn fluorescent lighting, and of course, millions of people crowded around to see the new addition (hence the father's arm, my brother, in the back of the shot!).

Cliche...Nice depth of field however...well executed

ok, but not all that original

great control of the depth of field on this shot. this is definitely a nicer and more artistic take on a newborn than most of the pictures i've seen. nicely done.

Your photo is nice and the lighting is great. I wish the nose was as clear as the rest of the face. Definately new. Eyes still puffy and everything. Great shot of a great event. Congrats and good luck in the challenge.

Really nice, I do wish that the whole baby was in focus

WONDERFUL shot --- PERFECT focus and right on topic. top 4

wow. Not perfect, but awful close. just a tad more depth...

Very nice detail and a well chosen angle. The DOF is working very good, drawing the viewers attention to the eye. I think the background behind the baby's hand is disturbing though. Nevertheless congratulations with both the photo and the baby :)

Well done. Score-8 Kee

This is almost a perfect shot. You have captured the real essence of new innocence, wonder and beauty in the image. The DOF has been used to great effect, the lighting is perfect and the feelings of serenity and contentment flood from the picture. But, and it's only a small but, the background is just not far enough out of focus to stop the eye being drawn away from all that foreground beauty… This is only a personal opinion; good luck (8)…

Well, this is just precious. Nice work. :)

This is a great image. I would have prefered the DOF going from the eye to the nose and mouth. Those are the interesting parts of your subject, they should be in focus.

I like how you eliminated all the unecessary detailsby shooting only the face. However, in my very own humble opinion, i think this would have been more powerful as a black and white photo. It would tend to soften the photo.

Great close-up.

good use of depth of field.

At last, someone has actually put some thought into a baby shot! Love the texture on the cheek. Could use a bit more depth to bring the nose into focus a bit more.

different angle makes a usually trite subject visually interesting

A really unusual shot of what is, perhaps, an obvious subject matter. This really is one of the best and most unusual baby photos I have seen for a long time. I love that you can see the downy skin in such detail and the lovely newborn shape to the closed eyes and the DOF is great. I really like this.
One question, looking into the background, I can see the baby's arm at the top left, but what is it at the top right?

Nice cropping of the picture, but the face is not in total focus. Congrats on your new baby!

very warm. It would've great to have the hole face in focus. get back a bit and then crop it.
08/12/2002 11:44:00 AM
Well, this shot is certainly predictable, but a superb closeup that SCREAMS new, not just because it's a baby. Very good work. (And what a precious little miracle, huh?)

beatiful shot. nice close up and depth
