no year listed ?
11/28/2006 08:46:26 PM
DNMC - no year in the title, and I don't associate this with any particular year. (perhaps I'm showing my ignorance). From an artistic standpoint, I think this image would be better if you had put a back drop behind the Buddha to hide the distracting background.

Not sure what year this relates to; the other objects in the background are a little distracting.
11/28/2006 06:09:43 PM
Not sure what year, but I do know Buddha's have been around a long time! lol
11/28/2006 11:03:09 AM
how does this meet the challenge?
11/27/2006 04:10:05 PM
the reflections in his race and belly are kind of distracting.

From Wikipedia - Smiling Buddha was the first nuclear test explosion by India on May 18, 1974 at Pokhran. Something more than the title would help, perhaps a backdrop of a mushroom cloud? Also, it would be better than the busy background here.

Once again missing year. Hopefully your score doesn't blow up ;-)

No year in title, too harsh lighting which causes bad reflections. I think it would have been better to go with a larger f-stop (smaller number) to allow more natural light and blur the background.

I must be missing something
11/26/2006 10:18:55 PM
uhh what year is this i cant tell by looking at the pic
11/25/2006 07:58:59 PM
Like the code name, but not the image, don't see the reference to a "year" in particular. 3
11/25/2006 05:38:41 PM
nice shot, but out of topic...
11/25/2006 01:18:28 PM
Lovely..but you may find that you get criticised for not having included your year in the title...?

Okay...I personally didn't mark you down for not including the year...just thought that it would be a detail most would pick up on :)

Having read your mail and done a Google, I understand what the significance of the Buddha is now...thank you.

1974... this one happened the day i was born
11/24/2006 08:21:07 AM
No mention of the year in the title...

It is hard for people (without seeing the article first) to know what some of these photos mean. I am sorry if I did not "clue in" that what you wanted to show was a nuclear explosion test...

As far as the photo, I really like the way you cropped it. On the other hand I see a few flaws... The background distracts from your subject. The lighting is harsh in many places. There is excessive shadows around the mouth area. Maybe using a reflector on the right side of Buddha at a 45 degree angle would do him some good.

I hiope this helps... Good luck!

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure what year this depicts. Are you claiming to be as old as this grinning fat man?

Don't know what year this refers to, so sorry DNMC.
11/23/2006 08:02:21 AM
Is this in the wrong challenge or something? How does it relate to the year you were born and where is the year in your title?
11/23/2006 04:19:47 AM
And the year is....?
11/22/2006 11:30:20 PM
What year?
11/22/2006 10:08:41 PM
Please tell me you're not as old as Buddha! Are we in the right challenge here?

Still, I like the reflections and the shine of the wood, though the background is distracting.

Could use a little sharpen.

Finally, an entry more obscure than mine! Better lighting and focus would have made this more compelling.
11/22/2006 01:05:53 PM
Do not conform to challenge?
11/22/2006 12:55:58 PM
too many reflections which distract the attention
the background is too busy

What Year?
11/22/2006 11:42:12 AM
"You should include the year in your title." I'm not sure what year/decade this is to represent. I'd like to. ;-) 4

Year?
11/22/2006 06:30:47 AM
What year is this??
11/22/2006 03:26:36 AM
What year was this? Lovely Buddha. A different background would have been better, imo.

Take us back to yesteryear by photographing something that defined the year you were born. Start googling, looking through old news papers and magazines, and show us your photographic interpretation of the year of your birth. Your title should should include the year.

Doh!

Is it a movie or what?
