ADORE the perspective on this. The effect of the tulle on the black background is really great. Such a natural and graceful pose for both a ballerina and a model of her age! Love it!

JasonPR~ you are right on with what I was going for with this photo. Thanks!

Thank you, heida!

Thanks to everyone else for the comments. I know I should have went without the grain, but I liked it. Oh well.

Thanks for the tip, dsidwell!

Great job. What I found particularly appealing about this photo was the connection between the lighting and the title, esp. given the challenge theme. It seemed to me that the lighting is coming from the star she is reaching for, the wishing star, the future spotlight.

This is a stunning pose (Your subject is darling)
I like that you opted to keep everything in focus here. (not easy in the low light).
Im not sure if I care for the grain on this one. It has me wondering if it is intentional.
I see grain in my shots if I use an ISO 800 in the dark with a fast shutter speed. I find I can improve considerably at a ISO 400 at a longer exposure in most cases, but both of these settings would be difficult to shoot the subject as you have here, without blur. I'm looking forward to seeing your settings for this shot.
This is a difficult shot and excellent composition one of my favorites for the challenge. 9

This is one of my favourites in the challenge. Great lighting, great pose. I like the black eyes...they really add to the musicbox ballerina effect. I hope you do well.

Effective use of unusual perspective for a portrait. Flesh-tones look a little grainy to me; I might try either smoothing them, or (post-challenge) running a Canvas (or similar) texture filter to give it a painted look and make the grain more "acceptable" to the average viewer.

Seems a little grainy...if not effect intended. Pretty little lady and nice capture.

Wonderful looking star! She is a sweetheart! Was the grainy effect intended or you just sharpened it a bit too much?

The lighting and noise work with the models expression and pose to give this a nice pensive mood. There is too much dynamic range for the camera to properly capture, but you've compensated very well, putting detail in the important shadow areas rather than the highlights.

What a darling. Perspective is fantastic, lighting is great The composition is wonderful. Her pose does look a little stiff, but not so much it detracts and there looks like some mottling on the skin of her back and arm, but that might either be from resizing or just my monitor. No idea. Excellent work, nonetheless. 9

I like the grainy feel and the perspective of this shot. Not too mention the girl is cute, but this shot does have more to it than just a cute kid. She really does communicate an aspiration and longing. Very well done.

I first gave you a 7. Then an 8. Now I think only a 10 is good enough. Her expression, and it fits the frame so perfectly. That left hand convinced me. 10 Hope you Ribbon.

I find this image to be a bit too grainy. I love the angle at which you've taken this photograph. What a pretty princess!

Excellent pose and composition. Just a little more light on her right eye and a little less on her cheek and back would have made it a great photo.

Nice idea.
Did you try it with the light in the front instead of the back?
And is the light diffused any at all?

The touch of pink in the frame compliments an already beautiful picture! 10

Very nice point of view! The light has a kind of Wyoming quality to it. If you make a print out of this, make sure you put a sparkle in her eye. They're a tad spooky here--so dark. But really a lovely shot.
