I do not know how this image will do. I know this is a pretty controversial image. But when I thought of it, I thought, who feels more alone than someone willing to take their own life.

Every now and then one randomly stumbles across great images here. This is clearly one. Before "my time" but you would have gotten 8+ from me for it. I rarely vote 1-2 or 9-10.

So there are two things with this one that bothers me. The impact of the subject and the people who has the stomach to vote this as a 1 just from being upset about said impact.

It's an image. It's art! And good one at that.

And yet they - all 20+12 of them - live around here, happily, understanding nothing, contaminating the very foundation that this site rests upon.

You deserved better.

This is idiotic. I would love to hear why somebody would give this a 1...If you can't deal with an image, don't vote on it.

...drgsoell had an incredibly mature response to this, in my opinion.

I would just like to say thanks for all of the support and none support. This image has taught me quite a bit.

This is an extremely powerful photo G4D's! The use of sharp contrast, a slight blue hue and negative space really allows this photo to display the incredible emotion behind the photo.

I'm truly disgusted by the scores you got on this, I know a large amount of people on this site are so close-minded that anything slightly original and artistic scares them and they vote it low, but this is beyond ridiculous. 20 1's? Give me a break! This is what photography is all about folks, enhancing our perception of the world, and stimulating our emotions, through technically superb and compositionally pleasing photo's. Some people should seriously get there head out of there asses, grow up, and come out into the real world.

I applaud you G4D, this photo is remarkable, despite the ignorance and immaturity of many members of this site.

I'm one of the 10's
I felt the image was technically superior and topically right on.

I'm quite confused why this image would recieve that many 1's

Wow, I agree with Kiwiness. You have one of the most even distribution curves with this pic that I have ever seen on this site...

That should tell you something. Namely that the photo itself and its relevence to the challenge is quite good, but that the subject matter was found distasteful by many.

I like the pic quite a bit, especially the toning. But then, I didn't vote this challenge.

I see this was an either "love it" or "hate it" pic, looking from the distributions of scores. 20 X 1's and 18 X 10's.

I like the bold composition and the nice highlights on the gun. The arm may be a little blown out, but you could burn that in a little if the rules allowed.

Definitely meets the challenge. My only criticism is that it's a shame about the burnt out highlights on the shoulder and upper arm. Superb composition, powerful implementation of a creative idea. 10

A very strong photo, to bad some people are so alone they feel this is the solution. We realy should care more about the people around us...

Frightening and provocative photo. Visually and technically superb, which adds to the effect. I'm worried about the motivation behind the photo, and I hope that the topic of this image isn't being exploited- images have power to do good and bad... ***as a side note, I rated yours and "You are never alone" the same, though the images are almost totally different, almost opposites. I'm curious to see how you both place.

Intense image. Well representing both loneliness and solitude. Black & white choice was perfect. Sharp image, good focus and lighting. Disturbing subject but well executed. Great use of space. As an aside, the tattoos look interesting. 8

Too edgy for this challenge but still a strong photograph.

uh, no! I don't believe loneliness has to lead to that. Frightening image. Good contrast and clear message, I just don't like the choice. 7

THis is an exceptional image. Composition, use of highlighting everything about it.

This would not have worked as a colour image, IMO. 10

Powerful image, I like the use of negative space and the crop. The colour choice is also very effective.

Universal Firearm Safety Rules: #2 Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, #3 Always point the muzzle in a safe direction. Ah heck, if everyone followed those rules, action movies would be pretty dull. Nice use of space in your photo and nice interpretation of the challenge. Grim but effective.

This was a difficult picture for me to grade. I actually passed it up 10-12 times and graded it last. It almost goes too far evoking "All Alone" into "Total Despair". Pretty powerful and well composed. The posture of the subject was just a little too determined, maybe indicating defiance instead of aloneness.

Pos .. Overal a visually appealing photo. B&W appropriate, and negative space works well.

Neg .. Well, the suicide theme is a little disturbing, other than that it is a good looking photo.

Woah!! Hard and direct, this pic really slams "alone" home. I bet you'll get an array of comments on this one and I'm looking forward to reading them after the challenge is over. From me a 9 anyway.

This photo is extremely powerful, yet disturbing...wonderful idea (for a photo anyway, it's not really a wonderful idea to point a gun to your head! :-) Love the use of negative space as well. 9
