Pretty basic really, just filled a syringe with water and wrote H2O onto some vinyl. Used a polarizer to avoid reflections. Soft box from the left and a bounced flash of some black board behind the water drops.

This is not my idea, I asked if I could use the idea.

I like this image. Well done.
One big drawback I see is that your camera sensor needs to be cleaned.
I see lots of sensor dust all over this image.

You know, I printed this out on regular paper, gave it to Melissa's 6th grade science teacher last year and she LOVED it! She still has it in her classroom and people are always asking her about it, LOL!

Deannda
I should order a real print for her, IF it was only available, hint, hint, hint

Kiwiness, I took a break from the site for a while and I come back today to see this. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! I litteraly said "WOW!!!" out loud. And you're so humble in your description of the photo... that's funny. Your attention to detail on the size of the drops shows just how good you are and how far we have to go to be at your level. AMAZING PICTURE!

The identical marks come from the soft box used.

You can see similar reflections in the eyes of any model shot under studio lights - its pretty common...

You are entitled to your opinion that's fine with me. In a way it is a compliment knowing I can get people to think I had to manipulate the photo to achieve this effect.

Here is one of the outakes I have that shows you that it is in fact very unmanipulated.

I really don't have that much originality sometimes, if I don't have my own ideas I just get inspired by what I have seen elsewhere. I think most people here in DPC do the same.

How in god's name did you write that so perfectly? I actually assumed it must have been some premade thing that just looked like water droplets. The more I study it the more I just can't believe that was hand done! Heck, I'd have been impressd by the penmanship had it been written in pen, but those droplets are sized and spaced beyond perfection.
GOOD GOD MAN, your talent is absolutely demoralizing to the rest of us!

Excellent work, well done.

This ribbon means a lot to me because it is the open challenge, which I find more difficult to get a good placing in than in the member's challenge.

WoW! That's the best looking photo I've seen in a long time! How on earth did you get such smooth differences in the size of the droplets? Truly beautiful lighting too. The one catchlight makes it work. Hope you get a ribbon - hope you will sell the print. I think I've got a pretty good idea who you are too - I recognise the style and the colouration. Good luck. Top marks for some very nice designer script! You're in graphics right? Surely no other genre of work can yield such pedantic behaviour. ; )

I love this for its cheeky design, punchy colour and sheer unusualness in the challenge. It stretches the theme a bit thin but, frankly, I don't care right now! [9]

So simple and yet so innovative.
A creative way of showing both the substance and the molecular formula whilst still keeping visual appeal of final image paramount.
The precision (in size and position) of each droplet is amazing.
Nice lighting and colour saturation.

Wow!! that is very creatively done! Stood right out! How on earth did you so exactly control the size of the water drops?

Although it only gives a nod to science, this is a superb photo and cannot be scored low. Very artistically arranged. It would make a great logo for a bottled water company.

Brilliant! I really like how you've got the droplets of water?? a) to stay in position and b) so uniform in their different sizes. Definately stands out, so neat looking. 10

Great idea. The blue color as a base really help to make the droplets pop out of the picture. Great contrast, especially the dark shadow of the droplets giving them mass. The white hightlight also gives the droplets more interest. Love the way the line across the "H" is curved and the "2" also. "10"

The best idea for the challenge, full marks to you for that.

I think the lighting could be better, but to be fair I don't know how, it just doesn't seem to stand out. perhaps becasue the shadows are so hard? I really don't know. Or even the dark area in the top right, but if removed you would lose some depth...mmm perhaps just right as it is! Great shot!

Anyway, it's a sure fire 10 from me, best of luck

wow I can imagine how long this would take I'm guessing you used a hypodermic needle to get the drops so perfect a dropper wouldn't get those little ones easily a 9 for wow-ness
