I have a shotgun passed down in my family identical to the one you photographed. The engraving is identical, but a piece is missing. Can you give me any information on the age of the gun and the value if you know it? (Wonderful photo by the way!)

My dad's shotgun - his dad's before that - couldn't say when the last time it was fired (not in my lifetime of 48 years) - now I have no idea where the firing pins are

A high quality shot. Great focus - you can even see the texture of the trigger. Great lighting too.

this I like. terriffic lighting, great colors, great composition. the only thing I would try to fix is the glare off the stock. other than that, excellent photo!

I really like the way you've framed this to dramatize the curves.

something dead?
08/09/2002 01:34:00 PM
I like this picture but cant read the inscription on the metal. Perhaps sepia would have worked also.
08/08/2002 11:28:00 PM
I would have given this a 10 except its a bit hot on some areas. Cut down on the glare at the side plate and it would be a perfect.

Like the close up, showing the scratches on the wood and metal and the rustiness. Also prefer shots which close up and make an abstract of the picture rather than show the whole item, well, depends what the subject matter is, but for things like this. Nice.

they don't make 'em like they used to, do they? nice inset, lighting, and well-worn detail clearly visible

I love this photo; this is my only 10 for the week. I Don't know how you could improve on this.

I like you photo. I thought about doing something like this. Now, I'm glad I did not. Your's is much better, and the gun is older :-)

The color, angle, crop, age ... the entire photo is perfect ! Superb ! = 10 Shiiizzzam

What a nice old shotgun. Wish I could see all of it. Great photo too. 10

Nice. The bright glare and dark shadows are distracting though. 8

excellent photo of an old gun

phenomenal composition... i can't say much about this photo.. the lighting is great... maybe a touch too bright in the lower right, but it's not harmful at all. This is a beauty... great shot :) = 10 - jmsetzler

Excellent subject. Excellent lighting. Excellent framing. Excellent.
08/07/2002 04:44:00 AM
This is a really good picture, liked it overall… The glare on the engraved plate detracts for the quality, perhaps a change of lighting would have made this a winner (8)
08/07/2002 01:24:00 AM
Well, this is a difficult shot to critique because I like it. But by changing the angle of the lighting to cut back on some of the glare off the stock lock, you might just loose some of the contrast that also gives this it's character.....Hmmmm. I'd love to see some of the out takes of this shot, and the many combinations you went through to settle in to this.

great composition and contrasting colors...very dramatic

I really like this photo, it is IMO very good. The composition is excellent and the angle of lighting is quite complementary. My only (very minor) nitpick is that the lighting is too harsh, thus there are some reflections and a small burned out spot.
08/06/2002 09:07:00 PM
that's an old beauty :)
08/06/2002 04:23:00 PM
I love this photo! Great use of lighting and filling the frame with a part of the rifle that is immediately identifiable. Looks great against the black background. Excellent work!
08/06/2002 03:44:00 PM
Well composed, and a good effort on the lighting, but it's just too bright at one spot, and not bright enough on other spots.
08/06/2002 01:28:00 PM
Beautiful clarity and rich colours really complement the curves and design of this old gun- andrewm

good composition. lighting seems a tad harsh. interesting subject.

Nice picture, I like it (7)

thats a cool gun

Something old. Use your photographic technique to emphasize the age of your subject.
Composition - quite good
Technical Aspects - very good
Meets Challenge - yes
Visual Impact / Originality - high

I think you needed more light. Indirect would have been best to keep from blowing out the detail on the flat surfaces. In trying to correct this it looks like you overprocessed and caused some deterioration in the image. In my opinion any way. Autool
08/05/2002 02:34:00 PM
would have liked to see the whole gun
08/05/2002 02:24:00 PM
Excellent detail. I like the lighting too.
08/05/2002 01:39:00 PM
a second light on the left would help. it has to be much lower in brightness than the right light. just enough to see some details that are black now
08/05/2002 11:41:00 AM
Very nice. Too bad the flash kind of lit up parts a bit too much... Good focus, Lighting is good. 8
