I realized that, after 16 days, I had only one "normal" portrait, and that was outside at night (day 6). So I figured it was time to try to take a real "studio" feel portrait.

Thanks very much to Cindi for her portrait lighting learning thread! In particular, I wanted to try her "Rembrandt" setup:
.

I don't have any movable lights, but my dining room chandelier is about at a 45 degree angle overhead if I sit in the right spot. So that's the sole light source. I also don't have anything to reflect with, and the result is the sharp shadow of my nose.

I also can't get far enough away from the dining room wall, so here's another layer mask to blur the wall a bit.

After 121 shots, most with me in the middle or on the left side of the frame, I realized that I'd look better on the right. My position was the same; I just moved over a bit. I think it looks better on this side because now my face is pointed into the frame.

My PS work is getting better, too. Here's the shot straight from the camera:

How'd I do?

I like the colors in this shot. Lots of blacks, whites, and grays that are actually "in color" (if that makes any sense). Nice expression too.

VERY nice use of light and positioning in the frame! If you want something to use as a reflector, get a piece of white posterboard from the local craft store. I've used that and suprisingly it seems to work OK. Great job!

Great job of using what you have available!

(You're right, Cindi's thread is a GREAT teaching tool...)

I agree with Leroy: well done. Natural and nice lighting. You are reminding me of somebody but I can't think of who it is.
