OH...MY...GOD...I won a Blue Ribbon!!!
I never thought I would even come close.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. To all who voted, commented and viewed my pic. I am Honored!
Go check out my profile...I'm posting my original shot as well as the original cartoon.

Woah! Never worked on a pic as much as this one! Thank God for the liquify tool!
I think I've stuck to the Extra Rules.
What I did to this pic:
Cropped, copied my face and pasted it, then cloned out my body. I then liquified my face to look like the face in the cartoon a bit more, and placed it where it was going to go. I then cloned out the support I'd placed to hold up the center cushion. I had to liquify my girlfriend a whole lot! (she does not look like that!!). I cloned out a part of the spring and made it look as if it was coming out of the couch with the smudge tool. Sharpened up the spring, coins and brush a bit. I dodged out the eyes and the vacuum. Then desaturated all, increased brightness and contrast. Created border. USM'd 3 times, added text, resized and NI and saved for web!!!
Funky!
I'll post the original (From The Far Side Gallery,ISBN:0-8362-2062-5) and my original capture once the voting is done!

Critique Club Review:

Congratulations on your ribbon, and a well deserved first place. It definetly looks like something straight out of a Larson book.

The wicker basket is a tiny bit distracting, but nothing major. It is really hard to critique this picture, because it is much closer to a graphic than a picture. However, that is not meant as a negative. That this picture was edited to this level without a bunch of post processing artifacts, speaks of a high level of artistic skill.

Congratulations on a well deserved first place.

Beautiful job of recreating the original. You should be proud of this. You almost perfectly recreated the look and feel of the original. Yours looks like the original, with with an added depth, almost 3D.

Congratulations on your first ribbon...and no less than the BLUE and a tremendous score to boot. I understand why your girlfriend might not be keen on this (what girl wants her butt etc. enlarged?!) but it's all for your "art" baby! So very well done!

This one had to win, if only for the perfectly Larsonesque reshaping/smoothing of the faces...
Good job!

I didn't shoot anything that would lend itself to liquidfy but damn I wish I had thought about that earlier. That was the perfect technique to use in this challenge. Even if you didn't use it I bet this would have done pretty well in it's own right. Congrats on the ribbon!

By far the best and most noteworthy invoking a good belly laugh. Ah, the brush mention elevates the comedy aspect to untold heights. My deepest congratulations on your deserved BLUE!

My only minor objection is the large type, otherwise this image can win first price for humor and creativity. Take the extra bump!

Really dig the work with what I assume was the liquify tool, you really got the "look" of farside characters on the people, nice PP work. Gave it a 9, think this is one of the best I have seen so far.

My 'scalvert' pick. It almost doesn't look like a photo, more like a shaded pencil drawing(which gives it a perfect FS feel) I assume NI was used to good effect?

LOL! Great job! Such a true cartoonish Far Side-ish style to it! Are they both cardboard cutouts or is she for real? I don't know how you did such a great job of making it look like a Far Side panel.
