This really means somethiong to me, quite an emotive piece, but not sure how it will be perceived.

With terrorists attacking cities, and people being murdered in teh streets, freedom is becoming less and less attractiev to many. A lot of people in troublesome areas are affraid to go out at night.

It's a sad state if affairs.

Technical info: Pretty basic really, shot on white paper, and a hallogen lamp to light. The blood is tomato puree mixed with a bit of water.

The yellowish light distracts from the locks appearance. Like how the table was lit. Maybe a b&w picture would've made the ketchup more realistic.

interesting..... color seems a bit off. i wish the hasp of the lock was pulled forward more. right now it is getting visually lost in the puddle in the background.

Great interpretation of the challenge

oh that's cool - my kind of shot. wish more people would be this bold and make a statement...I tried to make a statement with one of mine once and the "flower team" here gave a lot of negative comments...I hope that yours is met with better understanding...well composed - i like how its cropped very tight, even cutting out some of the key. nice. I'm assuming that's ketchup or something similar - i've given you a 9...but if that's real blood - send me an email and i'll give you a 10 =`)

the overall photo is a little fuzzy in appearance and the orangish overtone makes it all blend in a little, losing the focus. It's a good idea though.

Sad image but your right, it shouldn't have to come at a price. Man, this makes me really upset. Good job.

I don\'t particularly care for the orange hue and the red liquid doesn\'t at all look like blood (if that's what it\'s supposed to be) I\'m not sure the open lock really works either. It seems like a stretch for what you are trying to do.

how immature

Freedom as everything else costs, the question is what's the cost? Great image though, and 8!

But there is no way around it. Except perhaps spiritual freedom, but the more I consider it, even spiritual freedom costs.
Good concept picture, emotive, well planned and well executed...no pun intended.
I like the diagonal composition, the warm colouring.
there will prolly be folks who will say the blood looks fake...ignore them...lol. I once submitted one that I got that comment. It wasn't the greatest pic, for various reasons, but the fake blood comment...duh....I wasn't gonna use REAL blood.
Good job here!!! Best of luck!

I think I understand your purpose. Colors a bit odd, but not bad.

A thoughtful contrast of a hopeful title with a grim reality. Though someone should figure out a better representation for blood and share it with everyone - the tomato sauce sort of gives a sort of mock quality to an otherwise serious message. Framing and composition are good, though lighting and focus are a bit off. The grainyness works OK though with the subject matter.

jail brea?

You made me think for a little bit, but I finally figured it out. Plain ketchup doesn't seem to be a good subsitute for blood. It has a certain consistency that's hard to disguise.

The colours are hyper real, which is kinda cool, but the blood looks fake.
09/12/2003 03:47:49 PM
Image is interesting, but I'm not sure of the connection between blood and a padlock.

the Blood looks too fake
09/12/2003 05:45:07 AM
interesting Idea However the ketchup looks fake... next time try clear caro syrup with red food coloring...it makes great stage blood

Hopefully someday you will find something so dear and precious that, without a thought, you will lay your life down to protect. I thank God my forefathers begged to differ with you....else, today, I quite possibly would not have the liberty to disagree with you. Anything worth having involves risk! Your title degrades the image.
