I think your mistake on this one is not considering audience. You've automatically narrowed your audience by including an american flag in the photo, as many of us (including me) do not view the american flag as a symbol of freedom. I like the idea of the photo though! The composition is simple and effective, would be nice to see the words straight though.

I think a camera angle closer to the words with the DOF showing the flag in focus would be a little more clear.

Im sorry, but this idea with the text has been done so many times that it looses the originality. It is out of focus and off-tilt.
