I took this shot up by the barn. Hope you like it. What I was trying to convey was the feeling of lost youth. I took about 100 shots and settled on the one where Rita’s expression I felt had the most pathos. I told her before hand what I wanted but our dog Spock was there with us and as expected he had to run out into the road just as a van was coming around the corner. We both ran yelling, got him back to the lawn sitting, and I proceeded to take pictures. Part of Rita’s expression is based on worrying about Spock.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments. This is the first time I have entered a challenge of any sort as I have just begun my adventures in photography, being mainly a Painter, Fine Art. The idea of the photograph was a sudden insperation, noone has passed away.(Noone has been harmed in the making of this potograph).
Thanks again

Assuming that the girl in the held photo is the same person as the woman holding the photo, I give this a 9/10. A wonderful and colourful view of the spring and autumn of life.

At first glance I wasnt too sure about this image. I thought perhaps it was someone mourning the loss of a daughter/sister/relative/friend, probably coupled with the expression of sadness on her face. Then I realised that the door in the photograph was the same as in the image. I'm still not sure if it was my first initial feeling or whether it is an image of someone holding a photograph of themselves X number of years later. I've chosen to believe the second, as I feel that has more of an impact on me than the first. Reflecting back and mourning the passing of time is a really emotional issue. The happy pose of the girl suggests innocence and curiosity and the older woman shows life experience and possible hardships. The same yet different. I really like this image and enjoy it on many levels. It has made me think, and to do that is always a good thing. Thank you.

Is this the same woman? I think so! It looks like the same doorway too. I wish you had pulled back a bit to see more of the frame like in the original, but the message is still clear the way it is. If I could see more of the door frame and step I'd give it a 10, but as is, it's a 9.

She seems very sad about losing her youth. That is a wasteful way to live ones life. Good picture with alot of emotion.

Very nice. Love the subject and the photo within the photo. I hope she is that girl and it isn't someone she lost.

Great portrait. oh, she looks so sad.. Do her memories have to be sad? I like the way you placed her ring in the center but on her right hand? The soft tones are nice, contribute to the sadness, and the composition is (too?) straight forward, I wonder if the connection would be better without the hat? 8

Great idea, maybe a slight improvement would have been to have the same area of doorway and step showing in both photos but worth a 10 anyway

should have pulled out that weed

it attaches to her head - almost distracted me a bit
framing the current same as the photo would add to it
looks like its the same step

Nice composition, great idea. An overall good shot which fits the theme very well in my opinion. It could be brighter.

This is a good shot- and I think your subject looks great then and now! Love the idea and, despite the 'set-up' this works well. I'd like to see the other picture larger now - it looks like a nice photo.

It is sad to lose youth. Good job conveying your meaning here. Nice shot in general. Looks like she's even in the same doorway where the original photo was taken.

what a beautiful face and what a nice response to the challenge - the skin tones and the hat really make this work as well
