Thanks for all of your comments. Will work on sharpness, resolution, and other technical issues. I'm so glad that a few of you identified with this photo of my Suma. Suma is a major character (there are others) in my days, and always so willing to freeze for the moment. And he is well rewarded! :-) This pic was a moment after I hand-fed him a favorite treat, right here at my desk. I used the built in flash and he was looking up at me and there it was.

nice cat portrait :) I like the composition on this one.. the vertical orientation works very well. The texture of the cat's fur stands out nicely. In this image, a little extra sharpness may really make that fur punch a little harder :) = 7 - jmsetzler

Even though its a GREAT catch, it doesn't overwhelm me as a TEXTURE image. 5 sjgleah

This is one of many photos I have been bumping up a couple of points after adjusting my monitor. What I saw as flaws were actually my monitor's poor gamma setting. goodbye 4, hello 6

this texture likes to wake me up in the morning. now I see why!

Nice. Even though you only used 2/3 of the file size allowed to us, you're picture is still nice and sharp. You might have benifited from the resolution that unused 1/3 would have allowed you with the very fine texture of the fur. I like your picture though. Good exposure.

Total Score6

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

I can not imagine anything with more texture that a kitty's tongue. Perfect timing on this shot, and the cropping is perfect.

I have a shot very similar to this on my desk (not quite soooo close). I really like it. If anything, a little too strong of flash, otherwise, wonderful! 9 Swash

When I saw this I couldn't believe it, what a shot! Great timing to get that special moment. My only suggestion is to add some unsharp mask to really make it pop.

Nice capture, light is a little stronge and the color a little off, but over all a good shot. Well done. Kee

Yes, I see the texture. I can just imagine how that feels. Lots of different textures here. Just a little bit of bright flash on the right side of the nose and around the eyes.
