Challenge: Texture (Classic Editing)
Camera: Sony Mavica FD-87
Location: at home, on the deck
Date: Jul 18, 2002
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Date Uploaded: Jul 19, 2002

Problem I had was with the composition. Each time I went inside to check out a few takes on the PC, my dog removed some of her toys and tried to hide them. My dog and I share everything: my house, my bed, my food, my car but NOT her toys!

I wish the DOF was a little larger for this.

Would appreciate this if there were more context to it. 5 sjgleah

got the point of contrasting textures, but, sadly, a boring picture

A neat assortment of textures (hope Zeena is a dog!), but I think it would benefit from a slightly sharper focus. karmat

i take it zeena is a doggie :) ... a little harshly lit and out of focus. if you upped the focus, for sure it would be a much better pic. nice effort :)

this photo has lots of interesting texture... I don't think the focus is quite right though... the 'stuff' in the lower right and the tennis ball look a little soft.. = 5 - jmsetzler

lots of texture in this one. Good idea.

Subject didn't do much for me... You might want to try reshooting just the bones. While all of the toys have texture, they really scream texture. Also I'm not sure why, but the focus seems a bit soft. It might have happened in camera or maybe during the resize (I'm terrible at that) but 'texture REALLY needs sharp focus to work well. If you intended the soft focus, sorry, but for me it didn't work... But that's just me :)

NOTE : After adjusting my monitor, this image improved dramatically... Please ignore most of my comment above. I still think the bone would be better as the central theme, but most of the 'softness' was due to my monitor, not you. Sorry 'bout that... Bumping you 2 points to a 6

I love this picture. It reminds me of my dog's collection of toys!

This picture is a pretty good picture. I find though, that the blur is a bit distracting and it could be a little sharper. Meets challenge- 7 creative-6 composition- 4 total- 6

unfocused
07/24/2002 10:15:00 AM
A slight focus problem exists more so at the bottom.

You have a good idea, but the photo needs some more depth of field. Also, the rolled up toys in the center point out of the frame so the eye doesn't move around but just falls off the left side.

The focus on this picture doesn't cover enough of the image. Interesting idea playing with lots of textures.
07/23/2002 08:42:00 PM
Way too busy and your focus is off.
07/23/2002 01:04:00 PM
i don't think this pic is as visually appealing as some of the others (probably because is ee these same dog toys at my house daily), but i must say, WOW! There are a lot of different textures here and that was the name of the challenge, so way to go!
07/23/2002 09:16:00 AM
Lots of texture, but maybe could have been composed where more of them were in focus.
07/23/2002 07:02:00 AM
Needs to be sharper, try a smaller aperture.
07/23/2002 04:08:00 AM
good variety of textures, could do with greater depth of field?
07/23/2002 12:49:00 AM
sorry - too busy for me...
07/22/2002 10:37:00 PM
needs to be in focus. good arrangement of colors
07/22/2002 05:13:00 PM
Inteesting arrangement of textures. I notice that the depth of field is such that the foreground is out of focus while the background is very sharp. My one caution is that generally one would have things just the opposite with the foreground sharp and the background defocused.

Too busy and the majority of the shot is out of focus. There is no specific item that is drawing my attention.
07/22/2002 12:29:00 PM
nice idea but focus is a little off for a close up like this
07/22/2002 11:51:00 AM
would love to have seen Zeena AND her toys. Photo lacks interest...I think.
07/22/2002 11:49:00 AM
most of this picture is out of focus.
07/22/2002 10:39:00 AM
lol cute shot, and it's got texture. Kee
07/22/2002 09:00:00 AM
needs focus work,otherwise nice shot.
07/22/2002 07:45:00 AM
Fun idea, very creative, however not a very cleare picture.
07/22/2002 07:37:00 AM
sloppy...
07/22/2002 04:42:00 AM
would have helped if everything was in focus
07/22/2002 02:53:00 AM
I love all the different textures. zeena looks like one lucky pet. it just seems that there might be a little too much to look at. if you focused on one or two of the objects, you might get a result that feels less busy. I hope zeena doesn't actually put her (his?) mouth on that nasty ball in the lower left. eew.

I have the same dog toys for my dog! Never thought about using them. Love it. 9
