I loved the contrast between the boy's smooth skin and the wet ripple of the watermelon.

Great photography. I especially like the way the light shines through his eyelashes. So many textures here too. He looks like he is really enjoying that watermelon! I like how the light really shows off the juice! Very well done! 9

This is really nice. I think the colors and the red-headed, blue-eyed boy really works with this photo. Great Job.. 9 kdjohnson

This is an excellent portrait photo... very nice work... The texture of the watermelon slice works well, as does the texture of the freckles on the child's face... I love the composition on this one.. it makes me wonder what he is looking at in the distance outside the frame. The backlighting behind his eye on the right side of the frame adds a nice touch as well... good shot :) = 8 - jmsetzler

So cool! I love not only the juicy texture of the melon but also the feathery eyelashes of this child! What a sweet photo!

Technical Aspects10
Meets Challenge10
Total Score10

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

I know that watermelon is cold and crisp and juicy. Good job!

Most of all I like the composition and the cropping. The red of the melon makes the eye wander off the page but they are held there by the fingers. Very effective. Nice idea of textures too (see the freckles as another texture). Particularly like the sunlight on the lashes of the left eye. Titles are not that important to me but I was wondering about the smile in the title. The subject of the pic doesn't seem to smile but is looking dead serious. Nice, technically good img.

delicious..well done

Good skin tone color, and a good idea.

This is a beautiful photograph. Very nicely done. The texture is a stretch for me because it doesn't make me want to reach out and touch it, or make me feel it in my imagination. I will score now and revisit it later, too....

Fill in flash might have helped a little. Otherwise - great photo!

A nice people picture.

I would crop the left part - grass is not adding anything. Maybe even right part excluding fingers completelly - it will have more abstract feeling. Try, why not?

the watermelon sure looks delicious

I bet you had a mostly willing participant there. I had a similar idea, but then accidently ate my last piece - so it was too late.

cute shot, nice exposure, but to really show the smile, i think a different angle or a wider crop is needed.
07/22/2002 02:08:00 AM
I love those freckles!!

Now that makes me smile ! Shiiizzzam

I'm sure the theme will be lost on some people here, but I see it. Great photo. 8-ClubJuggle
