here's my daughter, running from the garden to the room. late afternoon, shadows are long. i had my three daughters taking turns chasing their shadows.
i know it IS not a picture of a shadow, nevertheless, we got the inspiration for the setup. whatever the score may be, we had fun shooting this challenge.

First impressions - I may not be a good one to critique this shot since I thought it should have won the blue ribbon. I even left a comment on your image after the voting that states just that.
Meets the challenge - I guess this is where you may have suffered a little in the voting. I feel it met the challenge just fine. Some voters probably wanted to see the shadow as more of the subject. Their loss.
Composition is flawless. The shadow leads the eye to the lovely child and the curtains take you around the rest of the photo. The white blown our area around the subject sets her off nicely and gives the sense of light bursting into the room along with the subject.
The only negative IMO is the wide border. I prefer smaller borders leaving more room for the image.
While a 6.5 score is nothing to sneeze at I thought this was a 7+ picture.
Great job. I hope this was somewhat helpful. It's hard to critique such a strong image!

could be a winner in my book. looks straight out of an advertisement. so soft. so not overprocessed looking. refreshing is what you should have titled it.
Challenge: SHADOWS III
Description: Creatively capture a shadow Advanced Edit
Playful!
Fit: Clearly meets the challenge 1
Aesthetics: Well composed, aesthetically pleasing 2
This is a fun and playfoul image with good use of the ROT, complete with a narrative in there too
Technical: Technically well executed 2
this is a tremendous shot - you should put this on a stock library type site or something because it's application in either advertisements or magazines is very fitting. the colours, light, feeling, are all bright and happy, and it's infectous. my only grumble with it is that i don't really believe it completely fits the point of the challenge, being that the shadow is a product of the shot, rather than a reason for it. but as a photo, it's wonderful. the way you've captured the movement is very impressive. i even love the title. i gave this an 8.
Normally I don't like blown out highlights, but sometimes the work. In this shot the explosion of light into the shot matches the movement of the girl bursting into the scene. And the long shadow in the foreground not only draws our eye to the girl, but also creates depth for the girl to 'move' into.
