Yes, this was shot in low light....but when I converted it to b&w and tweaked the sharpness it just came out with this grainy effect that I really liked... I had a feeling I would get a lot of negative comments on it so I was really surprised by how many folks actually liked the effect as much as I did. Thanks for all who voted and I appreciate the comments. :) BTW, these were my daughter's feet...shot on our living room sofa with a chenille blanket underneath her. And yes....I've been onto her about biting her nails forever now. :)

Nicely done. The graininess adds to this shot. 8-ClubJuggle

Very creative...love the B&W.

LOL -- "It's too grainy!" Yup, it is and I LIKE IT! Really interesting effect -- looks like the photo was really blown out and then brought back somehow. What did you use under the feet?
07/21/2002 08:52:00 PM
It makes the skin look kind of blank.
07/21/2002 05:52:00 PM
great!! Congratulations
07/21/2002 05:47:00 PM
Grainy effect is pretty neat. I'd be interested to see the shot without it, though.
07/21/2002 01:39:00 PM
I like this, but i feel that if it was sharp it would have beena lot better.
07/20/2002 10:18:00 PM
Very nice. My only nitpic would be to get the little finger out of the shadow between the feet or eliminate the shadow. This shot should do very well in this challenge in spite of there being so many excellent photos.
07/20/2002 05:40:00 PM
I think the grainy look makes this better.
07/19/2002 04:40:00 PM
Interesting photo with a strong composition. I find the reflection on the cloth on the left a little distracting.
07/19/2002 03:15:00 PM
the more i look at this photo, the more i like it. the position, and graininess is very effective here with the b&w but there are some places that look a tad blown out like the little finger of the upper hand. you've just moved up to my top10, err, top 11 i guess. :) -- gr8photos (9)

I think this is wonderful work. This is art. Definately Frame-Worthy. Whatever you did - it's great. I think it's a 10

its a bit grainy... nice idea, but it would look better if there was less noise on the skin tones.
07/19/2002 06:34:00 AM
I liek graininess here.
07/19/2002 03:07:00 AM
super great shot, wish it weren't so grainy
07/18/2002 04:38:00 PM
I see a lot of graineness in this image and since the image is in greyscale I am going to assume you are trying to simulate a the look of highspeed film pushed to the max. That said, I've been looking at this picture and going fron 'I like it.' to ' It just doesn't feel right.' I'm going to give a high score and I don't know why.

I really like this composition. I can't say that the grain adds much for me though. = 7 - jmsetzler

grainy but nice contrasts
07/18/2002 03:01:00 AM
The photo looks great as a thumbnail but when blown up, it looks grainy.
07/17/2002 06:24:00 PM
ahhh very sweet
07/17/2002 03:50:00 PM
way too grainy
07/17/2002 01:35:00 PM
creative portrait.
07/17/2002 10:00:00 AM
interesting subject. it looks good in black and white, but it also looks kinda grainy.
07/17/2002 08:09:00 AM
I like it.....was it intentionally diffused
07/17/2002 02:26:00 AM
The grain really makes this such a dramatic and powerful image. Great job.

nice pic, tighter cropping of the top might help a little more?
07/16/2002 04:55:00 PM
Did you add the grainy look? I like it
07/16/2002 11:12:00 AM
Nice use of grain!!
07/16/2002 10:39:00 AM
I like this. B&W and graininess is great. My one complaint (and this is probably because my husband drives me nuts with this) is that the subject appears to be a nail biter/picker. Pet peeve...sorry : P 7 Lisa

Oh how I've wanted to do this sort of thing! If I could just get 'em to let me! Like the choice of grain... gives it a timeless feel.
07/16/2002 08:11:00 AM
the texture is intriguing. at first it put me off, but the longer I looked at it, the more I liked it. The gritty yet smooth summarizes the subject matter nicely. I'm amazed that these feet look so much like my son's!
07/16/2002 01:23:00 AM
Nice composition.. I think it's a bit too grainy though
07/16/2002 12:22:00 AM
I like it...even with all the graininess.
07/15/2002 07:42:00 PM
The black & white color with the graininess create a great photo. I like this.
07/15/2002 05:16:00 PM
This photo reminds me of work usually seen in high end art galleries !
07/15/2002 05:01:00 PM
Love it. Love the grainy tones. Cool shot. Kee

Interesting shot. The graininess makes the body parts appear more like a statue, very interesting. Nice artistic flare. 7 Swash
07/15/2002 02:00:00 PM
I like this Photo. I wish the shot was more clear. Im not sure if you added an effect or if it just turned out i bit grainy, Clear is good.
07/15/2002 11:25:00 AM
Was this shot in very low light? It looks more like a dithered monochrome newspaper print rather than just a grey scale photo. Curious effect.
07/15/2002 10:51:00 AM
It looks grainy, but I think I like it. 8
07/15/2002 10:07:00 AM
Maybe you purposely made this grainy, but I'd loved to have seen it with the skin texture instead. Great idea though, I love hand shots!
07/15/2002 08:51:00 AM
Very nice. I bet you are gonna get a bunch of comments that say "this picture is too grainy". I personally like the feel of this image with the grain.
07/15/2002 01:35:00 AM
grainy
07/15/2002 12:20:00 AM
I like the grainy texture to this. Although feet are not my favorites -- I like this photo. It's simple. 6
