Wow. This is probably one of my top ten photos on all dpc. Cant believe this finished so low. Guess thats just me though. Great work as usual. Keep it up! :?) md

34th place? unbelievable.
07/22/2002 09:16:00 AM
you were robbed

Ah, well, thanks for all the comments. Believe me, the photo would not have been better with more depth of field. You really do need the depth of field to show that the wire is bending away from the viewer, rather than just being a loop of wire. And for those who said it was distracting, I'd ask...distracting from what? The phenominally interesting background? You're supposed to be looking along the line from the in-focus barb down and out of the picture. If I didn't want you to focus on the wire I'd have used a naked chick as a background instead of plain white :-)

I would have cropped this on the right side of the barb at the top. It would have been a bigger image of teh wire and may have had a better effect.
07/21/2002 08:37:00 PM
I'm torn on this one. As far as voting, I'm coming down on the "I like this side" but I'm not sure I like the effect with the barbed wire as it recedes into the distance. This is also almost too sparse for me -- maybe another loop of barbed wire somewhere in the shot -- or maybe even some other something altogether? Not sure.

Nice shot!
07/21/2002 06:23:00 PM
phenomenal graphic design. i like the use of depth of field to show that this is not a flat portrait. your separation from the background and detail on the first barb are both outstanding. mag 99

this is a great pic. i love the way the wire goes out of focus. amazing pic
07/21/2002 03:53:00 AM
ah yes. I love simplicity. the blurring looks strange to me--i don't know why! still, a 10 for you! --amitchell

Very interesting effect
07/20/2002 11:41:00 PM
very cool. like the white background, the curve, and the selective DOF. my top10 this week - gr8photos (9)

So simple, yet so profound. I like the crispness of the first barb and how it fades to the last one. Good job.
07/20/2002 07:03:00 PM
Simple, effective.
07/20/2002 06:42:00 PM
Like the contrast...black on white

Interesting subject for such an artistic approach. I like the simplicity and clean background. However, I do think that a tad more DOF would improve slightly. Good job of getting out of the box!
07/19/2002 04:50:00 PM
Excellent shot. I love the shallow DOF and the perfect focus on the near barb. 9-ClubJuggle.
07/19/2002 04:01:00 PM
Wonderful clean shot and composition. It looks like you adjusted the contrast/brightness too much though.
07/19/2002 04:32:00 AM
Nice and clean.
07/19/2002 03:31:00 AM
very nice use of black and white..
07/19/2002 12:25:00 AM
wow! Strong graphic. would like to see better depth of field but this is good...simple. No looking for the focal point here.
07/18/2002 06:19:00 PM
While I like simplicity, this photo suffers from no real study of form or lines or texture. It apears that the blur is artificial.
07/18/2002 01:26:00 PM
Beautiful! Cant find anything negative to say about this one! Very cool photo. 10-md
07/18/2002 01:17:00 PM
i think this is a VERY strong image this week. i really like the fade from focus as the barbed wire bends around and falls out of the image... I don't particularly like the effect that the post processing has had on that part of the wire. = 9 - jmsetzler

Awesome. I love the plain white the barbs.
07/17/2002 08:54:00 AM
good shot to be part of an illustration; doesn't work well alone
07/17/2002 03:15:00 AM

07/16/2002 04:14:00 PM
Great contrast, how was this done?
07/16/2002 03:22:00 PM

07/16/2002 02:09:00 PM
Good one! (arnit)
07/16/2002 11:56:00 AM
A striking image in it's simplicity. DOF,focus, composition and exposure are all good. One of my top picks.
07/16/2002 10:57:00 AM
There isn't a whole lot of depth of field here, bending the wire backwards beyond the edge of focus isn't a good idea.It is distracting.I like the idea of the wire on white.
07/16/2002 10:02:00 AM
This is a great shot - one of my top 5 this week. Simple, effective and the focus is perfect.
07/16/2002 09:39:00 AM
like the contrast between blurry and in focus. Would have liked to see more contrast with background though.
07/16/2002 09:36:00 AM
good use of DOF for this.
07/16/2002 02:59:00 AM
great pull focus, great composition, great contrast, great lighting. what more can I say, but great!
07/15/2002 11:46:00 PM

great dof and framing. background is perfect.
07/15/2002 04:44:00 PM
wow, not sure what to say, white and pokey. lol 7
07/15/2002 04:06:00 PM
I like your subject and composition. If you had more depth of field you'd be in the top 10.
07/15/2002 03:18:00 PM
Very close barb. Interesting how you got a total lack of background. Although I don't really think this is technically wrong in any way, I have no connection to this shot. 6 Swash
07/15/2002 02:18:00 PM
very nice...
07/15/2002 01:56:00 PM
powerful image with interesting focus
07/15/2002 01:06:00 PM
Fantastically white background!
07/15/2002 12:56:00 PM
Nice, like your title and the composition. Kee
07/15/2002 09:53:00 AM
plain,but good
07/15/2002 07:52:00 AM
Nice simple lines. The b&w is great.
07/15/2002 12:44:00 AM
The overall composition is good, but I would have liked to see the entire wire in focus. The fuzzieness looks a bit wierd.
