damn... I had seriously grown fond of this photo. i really like the complicated simplicity. its more real and intreaguing.
I think that the photos which rated the lowest are actually the most interesting, specially as they usually have alot hidden and, instead of the boldly, unambigously stated images (usually ranking in the top-ten) this photos requires the participation of the 'audience's' creativity. i like not being spoon-fed.
dont try to copy the winners just to rank higher - you'll loose your individuality.

GEEE!
I am new at this (dp) and this was my very first dp photo ever....
When I shot this photo, my camera was about 26 min old...

Anyway, I didnt expected to have the last place... Well, I'm not frustrated, I promise I will improve... BEWARE OF ME... (in about 100 years)

Ooops, don't forget to turn off the date feature, or allow enough room to crop it out. You might try this with a little more light as well.
07/21/2002 04:15:00 PM
OK, I have to admit, I'm confused as to why you would enter this -- but beyond that.... If possible, please try to turn off the date stamp -- it can ruin really great photos. The levels here could use some work -- so that everythign isn't a totally flat color. Third, try a different composition instead of dead center for your subject. Though should get you started.

I'm sorry, the timestamp just kills it.
07/20/2002 05:50:00 PM
I'm just not sure what this picture is all about. And I hate that annoy date

I don't like that date
07/19/2002 06:36:00 AM
Catastrophic. And date as well???
07/19/2002 12:54:00 AM
underexposed!
07/18/2002 06:25:00 PM
Underexposed, soft and exhibiting noise. Nothing of any great interest here.
07/18/2002 12:49:00 PM
I like how this picture makes me wonder what the subject is - the water, the drain or the date. It looks like you did a pretty good job cleaning the sink, but it is underexposed. The red date is a nice contrast against the sink. It really stands out. You should remember the rule of thirds on shots like this.

color values not distinct enough to make this effective
07/17/2002 05:52:00 PM
AH! devine!!!

I imagine you have gotten this already, but turn off the date when you take a picture for the contest.
Also this is probably the worst subject you could have picked for your free shoot. and it isnt even clear.

I thought about not commenting, but ok here it is...Maybe it's just me, but I don't really 'see' this image - the subject or the photography. I guess you'll have to explain to me later. I don't know what else to say - sorry.

I think a couple of things could be done to make this a more interesting picture. First, crop it or frame it so that the subject isn't in the middle. That makes it look kinda static. Moving it to the left or right, or even moving the camera to get a funky angle would get a more dynamic shot. Second, the try making it brighter by using more lights, or if you could get a hold of some colored lights that might be neat. Good capture of water; not an easy subject to tackle, I think. karmat

the date stamp is a nice touch.
07/17/2002 11:10:00 AM
that date stamp makes it look as if you took this shot a day before the challenge ... anyway, were you trying to recrate the stop motion challenge? you did stop the motion, but, unfortunately, the subject's not very enticing to me. -- gr8photos (3)

hmmm.....
07/16/2002 05:00:00 PM
???
07/16/2002 04:11:00 PM
Abit sharper and you have a good picture.
07/16/2002 03:32:00 PM
i like!
07/16/2002 01:57:00 PM
This photo is completely uninteresting. The date in the lower right is destractiong. The water droplets are undefined, and possibly out of focus.
07/16/2002 01:49:00 PM
I like this except the color seems to be of. were you trying for this effect?
07/16/2002 08:43:00 AM
Interesting.
07/16/2002 08:24:00 AM
We have seen this problem before here at DPC. I'm sure you are getting an earful about turning the date function off on your camera!

*****Didn't you notice the challenge was for 7/8/02 thru 7/14/02? *******
07/16/2002 12:11:00 AM
The timestamp doesn't really help this shot. The rest of the shot is kind of dark with flat colors. If that was your intent, you hit it on the money, but it doesn't work for me.
07/15/2002 11:01:00 PM
i like dating my photo's too, but i hear that it detracts from the photo......
07/15/2002 06:14:00 PM
Lose the date and get some more dramatic lighting on the subject
07/15/2002 05:32:00 PM
The date stamp takes away from the picture and you need more light to bring out the details of the water. Good effort.
07/15/2002 02:57:00 PM
Unfortunately your photo doesn't do much for me - too dark (which in turn perhaps is why it's so grainy), water coming out too fast to see any real stopped motion. IMO you would do yourself a huge favor by reading your manual and turning off that offensive date stamp - that's horrible. ~ cthenk
07/15/2002 01:56:00 PM
I think I see what you were going for, but it's too dark overall and there isn't enough constrast between the water and the sink to really see the effects. Please turn off the date stamp or step back so you can crop it out. No downgrading for it, but it is distracting. 4 Swash

I would definitely turn the date function off... As for subject, I would not suggest bullseye centering. This particular subject doesn't hold any artistic or visual impact value for me. The lighting is also a bit weak... = 3 - jmsetzler
07/15/2002 03:21:00 AM
First, turn of the date feature of the camera ;) Then add some more light to the subject, run the water into something really dark, and increase the sharpness, and you'll approach something that looks a lot nicer.
07/15/2002 01:28:00 AM
Could you not crop the date out??? *3* --balynch
