Going for the horror movie image here. Leveraging the look and feel of the poster for "What Lies Beneath" (Michelle Pfeiffer, Harrison Ford movie).

Dominus Pater Culpa literally translates from Latin to "Lord, Father, a Sin" (found a Latin translation website).

Dodged out the top of the image (leaving room for the movie title on the poster). Burned in the choke marks on the neck. Did some levels, resize, save for web - no sharpening.

Expecting about a 5.2 on this one - don't think it's nearly enough for this challenge, but I needed to enter, as this is the first round of LoD2 - and this is all I had time to shoot this week. :-(

This is a good concept, but I can see why it didn't score higher, where others are a little more incredulous. There is nothing wrong with the technical aspects of the photo, exactly, it's more a matter of props and makeup. Here goes:

The typical horror movie victim is a young, unmarried girl/woman. Film studies people will even tell you that most horror movie murder victims tend to be a bit slutty and that they're essentially being punished for their sexuality. The best example of this trend is the original "Halloween", where good girl Jamie Lee Curtis outlives all her slutty friends. Based on this near-universal film type, here's a couple notes:

(1) Take the rings off the model, especially the wedding ring.

(2) Tone down the lipstick - simply too bright. Maybe even go with a bluish tone to really show that she's dead. Adjust the hue very slightly toward the blue end to give her skin an ashen look.

(3) The smeared mascara under her eyes ages her quite a bit, and remember, you want to give the impression of the hot young murder victim. I think she'd be better off without any mascara. Since this challenge had advanced editing rules, you could always burn the lashes and brows a little for emphasis if necessary.

Overall, I think giving her a more innocent and dead look would make this vastly more disturbing.

I'm floored this didn't score higher. I figured this for top 10 or 20 at least. Haunting image - very well done.

I think this would've had more power, if the contrast was bumped up a bit. 7

Eerie blank stare, strangulation marks on the neck, yup she's dead. I found myself pondering this image for a long time.

PS- I wish I could photoshop my tub and shower to be so sparkling clean.

Creepy one. Almost looks like a poster for a horror film. Nice idea, I did this a while ago with my boyfriend too.

Creepy! well shot image. A bit more blue (and maybe a colour cast to give the poster "look") might improve the association with the challenge. The title is a bit of a shoe horn (I think that culpa is normally translated as "blame").

Now we're talking! Dynamic angle, great expression from the model, nice pretentious movie title :), and just enough of a plot is hinted at to intrigue the viewer.

what I am looking for in this challenge is for a creative 'wow' shot that would go on a movie poster. I think that's what the challenge is all about...this would work well...I could see the text on it...well done
