AFTER CHALLENGE: Well, I'm not unhappy with the score and I'm so excited about all the comments! Here's a little more info:

I had a chair back behind her (covered in black cloth) so that she had something to lean against. I had earlier measured out and area that was a square and hung yarn across the top and right end (by the feet) in the right places to give myself and the model a guideline for hand and foot placement. It wasn't perfect, but it worked fairly well.

The first entry I\'ve really worked at with my new camera. Still learning, but not too bad for just over a week of having it I think.

I really have no idea how this will do. I wish the technical qualities were better....this would never have made it into a basics challenge, as it needed too much work.

Editing: Levels, color adjustment, resized to "squish" her in a bit to get closer to a perfect square ratio with the pose, cropped, selections of black backdrop increase black level, brightened teeth, increased contrast in the eye, lightened and saturated a few highlights in the hair at the back of the head, lightened the back arm and the feet, darkend just above her waist (the fold in the shirt was too white/bright), slightly darkened the bright side of her upper arm, neat image, resized, usm, tidied up a few edges for a smoother look. Added border. That's about it :)

Awesome concept. I am not such a fan of the pink border, though that might just be me as I usually prefer simple black and white borders. The image could be sharper.

I am adding this one as a favorite, and also you as a favorite photographer, as I love this one, when it was in the challenge.....

Wow look at all those comments! That really is amazing. I usually only see that many comments on an awful photo, which your is defiantly not. I was reading your personal comments about the photo and see you were a little bummed about the score, unfortunately on the photos I think will do best that always happens to me. I also think voters get burned out when the challenge has so many entries.

On to the image itself... "Boxed In" defiantly meets the Square Crop challenge. This first thing that grabs my attention is the pink. I think pink was a prefect choice it really grabs viewers. The only thing I would play with is the lighting on her upper arm and the little tie on the bottom of her shirt. I am sure this was a tough shot to capture. Good idea with using the chair, you really can't tell at all. This is really great work with a new camera. I can see why you choose to use a border, I think a lot of voters are very opinionated about borders. I really think with out the border the box, the concept of being in the box may have been missed. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your future entries.

A nice entry, and the only one with someone simulating being in a box. I love the colors and overally cheerful feel to the photo. Nice job Jo.

Really good comp for this challenge. It must have taken a bit to get the placement of the hand and foot exactly touching the edges of the pic. Nice job.

I think you pink border takes away from your photo. I did a whole project like this. It was called 25 strangers. I built a large box and took it to the local college. I photographed 25 people I did not know and presented the prints in 25 4x4 boxes. It was one of my favorite assignements!

Good idea, very bad pink frame. Personal oppinion - I would choose different clothing to make it more of a staged photo. :) Imagine only black and white clothes. huh?

Very clever idea and well executed. I'm amazed you were able to get the proportions correct to be able to have such a perfect crop. Great job.

I just knew this was going to happen - I'm just suprized that it took voting through 138 images to see it (the box). You did a good job with it. Contrary to so many images in this challenge, your border works very well too!

Great idea and execution! Not sure about the pink border though...I wonder how it would look with just a white one?

creative idea - only complaint is she isn't actually touching the bottom of the box - otherwise she is touching all other sides 7

I've seen this type of picture before, but this is still a good idea! It's a pity her right hand didn't extend all the way down to the bottom, but well done! 7

Clever idea I wish I had thought of this one. I think you could have brought out more impact had you been a little more exact with the positioning of the hands and feet. Maybe you could have put her in a real box to get the realisticness (if that is proper English) and then just cropped around the box carefully.
