Congratulations on the great finish!

Greetings from the Critique Club ...

An awesome shot, and an awesome finish! There's not too much to critique here, so let me just give a few of my personal opinions.

It's technically perfect. Toning, sharpness, DOF, beauty, make-up, pose, ... it's all great. In my opinion, the crop isn't right for this shot. This model's beautiful face and stare are making the image. Maybe cropping a little tighter to get her face bigger in the frame would have added a bit (it would have for me). The current crop at the bottom seems just a bit awkward. Other than that, a shallower depth of field would have really thrown the background out, but it's still good as is.

Very well done!

Congradulations on the 8! Personally, I think it should of been higher, even with the present competion.

Great job!

Yea! My highest finish - a top 10! I drifted away from DPC for a while, but I have always visited the site to view the photos. I missed having a designated photo challenge though. I decided to up my participation and do the Fashion challenge. I originally planned on more of a studio shot. My in-laws were visiting though and I didn't want to turn my living room upside-down to take pictures. I waited until the day of the contest and drug my daughter out to one of my favorite photo spots. It was close to sundown and the lighting was really good. I only did some minor level adjustments, sharpening and I ran it through Neat Image. This has really motivated me to take more photos and to enter more often. Thanks to all who have commented. I've learned something from each of your remarks.

SEE! LOL..Even when we discussed this and the flaws, it STILL pulled out a great placement! I hope she considers pro modeling soon! :)

BEAUTIFUL model. Looking back through, I gave this one a 9. It should have been a ten.

I like this... can't pin down exactly why, but maybe that's a positive? Means everything ties together well?

Very nicely done. I can't decide if I would have liked her better with feet.

Pose, expression, tonal control, and composition all really good, and the emphasis of the image is indeed on what she's wearing, which seems fashionable enough to me. Very well done.

Ok, this one is excellent. The best one I've seen so far. Maybe the pretty girl is going to my head, but the shot is well composed and the lighting is excellent and the whole tone is superb. Great going. This one should finish pretty high!

Pretty good. I think there is too much b/g for what you are trying to style in this shot. Maybe a more shallow DOF?

Good tones and I like the placement of the model in the X formed by the structure.

This is a very nice outdoor portrait of a pretty woman but her outfit just doesn't look like something I'd find in a fashion spread or even a catalog. It's okay, just not particularly fashion-forward. Without the right clothes, this doesn't have enough of a feel of a fashion spread to pass for me (some others in this challenge have similarly 'classic' clothes but more authentic looking fashion editorial styles.

Attractive model. Nice tone used for coloration. Location for the shoot is "OK" - a little bit too interesting and the eye wanders away from the subject to look at the rest of the story. Otherwise, well done. Good luck in the challenge.

Needed a little more of the model - the shoes finish the look? The hat is drawing me there...

Very nicely done. Excellent choice of background for the subject. The crop seems a little tight on the left. The pose is nice, could possibly be better if she were to unclench her left hand and raise her chin a little. I like the sepia toning of this - it fits well with the theme of the photo.

When using a real full model shot for fashion photography, one has to be very careful how and what is being portrayed. This comes down to many factors, but mainly the model herself can make or break the ad, the product, the shot, etc. This would have been a fantastic shot if it weren't for a few obvious flaws. The model herself is just gorgeous. VERY expressive eyes, gorgeous hair flow, nice scenery, well fitting clothes. Here are the obvious flaws. It looks like some army officer was yelling at her to stand up straight and stick out her chest. She is WAY too straight. A totally unnatural pose, and looks like she is purposely sticking out her chest, if not subconciously. Her face alone would have made this shot perfect, with background as is and just cropped, but her pose ruins it. The hat just hanging straight down like that speaks nothing for the fashion. It's really a pity, and I would actually reshoot this and place it in a portfolio for her in which she should use for actual modeling, but after some lessons. This shot had a HUGE amount of potential, and if modeled correctly can make a wonderful portfolio shot. Still scored it high, for potential, for beauty of the model, and for scenery.
