Challenge: Best of 2005 (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Location: Puget Sound, WA
Date: Dec 17, 2005
Aperture: 9.72
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/15
Galleries: Nature, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Jan 14, 2006

I took this on a VERY cold (29 degrees) afternoon out by the Puget Sound. It got to as cold as 22 degrees, which is very unusal here by the water. I was only out there for about 10 minutes before my hands wouldn't work anymore.

I did some basic adjusting, I am still learning how to do all that stuff...

But, hope everyone likes it...

Thank you to everyone for all the great comments, I am sorry to disappoint with my inexperience. I did learn something and have read the tutorial, and next time I will not make that same mistake (hopefully, hehe :)

But I am happy that most everyone liked the picture, (except that guy who gave me a "1" and told me to follow directions...) it does make me feel a whole lot better.

See you next time....

Wow. If not for the size of the picture I think this would have done very well.

It's a beautiful image, but should be a little bigger.

Too small. You'll get hammered. Insteresting subject however, this could have been good.

This is an intriguing photo with lots of detail that due to the size of the photo I am unable to fully appreciate. There are great tutorials on DPC that walk you step by step on how to process your image to take full advantage of the file size we are allowed on this site. Hopefully your next entry will score better.

This image is really to small to appear to its best advantage.

So small! Use the full 640 next time. Could have been a very pretty shot. :(

I have a hard time with this shot, you have not made the most of it as it loses impact through its size, it needed to be much larger, and I think you will loose a lot of points through that alone.

This looks good, but wish it was a bigger image.....

Beautiful. Reminds me of a morning i experienced one summer in the Sierras.

I really wish this photo was larger - as it is, I am unable to really comment on the composition or details.

This looks like it would be a nice image, however due to the size being so small I am unable to see enough detail to judge. Images should really be as close to the allowed size as possible. "File Size: No larger than 150 KB (153,600 bytes). Dimension: No dimension may be shorter than 160 pixels or longer than 640 pixels." Your dimension are 11,912 bytes and 275 x 183 pixels. If you are receiving lower scores then you anticipated it is probably due to the small size of the photo and not the contents.

Pretty, I think, but too small :(

This looks like a cool photo, but I really can't judge it in this small view. Sorry.

maybe on your next challenge you'll submit at the max size, 640 on the long side. Looks like this is a nice image, but I can't be sure enough to vote it very highly due to the size.

Your image would be a greater pleasure to look at if it were larger and then could enhance the details.

Could be a great shot... Just too small.

From the little I can see, it seems to be quite well-composed. Nice diagonal line of the rock formation and the wooden structure seem almost at an interesting vertical third. Unfortunately all other details are lost because of the size. DPC allows up to 640px (you can follow the tutorial available) as long as it doesn't exceed 150kb.

really hard to to make out the detail when the image is so small...if u made it bigger the impact would improve!

Very pretty scene. I can't image why you submitted it so small though. You know you're going to take a hit on your scores because of it.

please read the tutorial for preparing images for challenges. you have no doubt lost a lot of votes due to your image size. as best i can tell, this would have scored a LOT higher if the image had been 5x larger. don't be discouraged, and DON'T QUIT! better luck next time.

This could have been an amazing shot if it was sized correctly. Definitely make your longest axis 640 pixels. You've got them, so you might as well use them.

This seem to be a really nice picture, but it is way too small, you should use the 640 pixels that are allowed for the challenges.

I assume that you're a new user (because of the size of your image) and that you're getting killed on the score (also because of the size). Don't worry! It's not that hard to fix the size issue next time (there's a tutorial available under "Help" - you can ask in the forums if you can't find it), and this looks like it might have been a very nice image if it were larger. I'm sure you'll do much better next time.

This is really too small to be able to be judged properly. It looks like it could be interesting if it were the right size :(

You'll probably hear a lot of this... It's too small. Make the long side 640 pixels to make the most of it.
