Well I "cheated" a little bit, this is no stranger but my dear beloved wife and she is definately posing for me in this shot but we did our best to try and make it look natural.

Taken at 200mm, no filters, obviously a tripod and mirror lockup and just lit with ambient lighting.

Have had this idea in my head for a while now, got the idea from a poster for the movie "The Terminal" where Tom Hanks was standing still, bewildered at the airport and there were people all around him that were moved. This challenge seemed the perfect opportunity to try this shot out.

As for the PP, cropped to a 1:1 ratio, shadow/highligts adjustment and curves to increase contrast. A couple of spot edits, took out a couple of miniature glares in the glass and some clutter in the upper left corner. Mixed the colours with a sepia layer to make it more brownish and finally sharpened after resizing. I really like this shot but don´t really think it will be a huge hit in the challenge, to "plain" for you people I guess. Hopefully you´ll prove me wrong, we´ll see :)

Edited after the challenge: Wohoo, was really hoping for a 6.5+ and a top 10 spot so I am very glad with this result. To those experts that thought this photo was the result of some photoshop magic, all I can say is that this image appears here pretty much as it was straight out of the camera except for the crop, the sepia colour tone and contrast. Oh, and the backround is indeed out of focus, as are those people who are behind her, it´s just hard to tell because of the motion blur. Take a look at the tiles by her feet and then the ones in the upper right corner :)

As always, thanx for taking the time to view and comment on my shots.

maybe crop out some of the bottom - and try something other than a square crop. i think you could get more impact out of this.

none-the-less a great photo.
congrats!

figured this would have had to be posed for her to be so sharp with a long exposure - which was fine with me - I gave this an 8. Congratulations on your excellent finish.

Subject is definitely singled out; however, post-processing needs improvment. The bar she rests her hand on is creating an unusual line through the shot, and the DOF just seems off.

A very interesting presentation in the cropping and then the ghost movement about. 7

This one speaks to me for some reason. Nice job in capturing the moment. The blur makes this one.

I don't really see her as being in a world of her own, which to me implies that she is lost in thought, since she is on a phone. But that's just nitpicking about the title. I kind of like this. The thing I'm not sure about is that the blur looks like it was done with a filter which kind of ruins the effect a bit for me. I could be wrong--what is bothering me is that it looks like the floor is blurred in some areas and that doesn't make sense to me. I'm not against post-processing for effect, and I'm a fan of motion blur, but something about this just doesn't work for me.

This really captures that occasional interlude in the mad rush of life. Well composed. Maybe that 'e' above her left shoulder needs to be cloned out.

I'm struggling here between 9 and 10... the composition, clarity, theme, subject, everything is perfect. The only thing I am trying to decide on is whether there is enough of background 'noise' to consider this an exceptional 'meet the challenge' i.e. singled out photo. I'll bump to 10, just in case. Good luck!

I like this one, the blue shirt really stands out in the blurred greys. I like that no one else is not blurred.. Well done.

You are not using DOF isolation (a requirement) in this shot. However, long-exposure isolation from moving subjects is working rather nicely here; I don't particularly like the outcome, particularly the ghost of a man just behind the woman, the way that the legs are cut off the other "ghosts", the reflection of an escalator in the glass, and the placement of the main subject dead in the middle of the frame.

IMO this deserves a 1st place. Great textured feel to the floor and the partial people racing by is excellent. Really defines to-days society-we spend hours each day talking to people we can't see and yet ignore fellow humans inches away from us. Very well done!!!!

This is a great shot... the clarity of the still figure versus the movement of the moving characters is one that I often find looks like accidental camera shake. The absolute contrast between the still and the moving gives great purpose to the composition. An angaging capture... Well Done!!

She must have been standing as still as a statue for you to capture this as sharply as you have given the length of exposure... I like your composition, with the diagonals providing structure and I really like how you've really conveyed the sense both of a moment in time and of time passing. Very clever!
