I'm sure that most people will feel that the "burst of color" should be the subject. It will probably hurt my score, but I did the opposite. IMO the bright red building in the background does "offset" my black and white subject from the rest of the photograph. It will be interesting to see if anyone else agrees.

Nice colour burst but find it a little artificial-looking.

Brilliant colored background, but it doesn't look natural for reason. It looks more like a "cut & paste" of the bird. I like the composition and detail of both bird and tree.

Great shot. You've really managed to capture the bird well against that backdrop. The detail and focus looks great and I really like the DOF....8

I like the "inverse" thinking with the b/w bird and colorful background. Colors in the back look a bit unreal, but the fact that they pop so much works for this shot. Focus is great... love the feather detail, spots and tree bark. One of my top picks for this challenge. Well done!

Strong burst of the color red here, great texture in the bark of tree plus a great photo of the bird as well..... very pleasing to the eye. I like this a lot and hope it does well.

I like the way you took the alternative route with this challenge and used max saturation to the background in order to isolate the bird. It works.

Interesting that it is the background that has the bright color and not the bird. It still draws attention to him and the sharp focus on the bird helps this to get the idea across. I might crop out a bit of the tree trunk on the right to tighten the image and emphasize the bright color more.

Thank goodness for post processing to help out that background - which does indeed make a burst of color. Great capture of the bird and I like the texture on the tree too. 8

This is nice but the background looks almost too fake. Sorry if it is a real background!

I think you back ground is more my focus than the object. Nice clear shot though.

Nice downy, but the reds don't work well to me.

WOW That's a beautiful capture of the bird. Great detail. I'd crop out most of the tree bark. That background really POPS.
