Wieringer Barge with registration number WR6, sailing on the IJsselmeer with a sailing competition in the background. Shot when I was on my way to Sail Amsterdam 2005 on a Skūtsje (small Frisian freight sailer) that was hired by Finish Profiles from Purmerend. The conditions were slightly hazy with a very blah sky and a bit of fog on the water. A couple of hours later we got a very bad thunderstorm on our heads. We just rounded the firehouse at Marken when this barge came towards us.

The WR6 is build in the 1920's and was first registered as BIW18 (Broek in Waterland) from where it was used to fish for eel until 1957. From 1980 on (after restoration) it is registered as WR6. I say restored, but it might be completely rebuild. Oak doesn't last too long in non-salty water, especially when you neglect maintenance.

This is a re-edit, because the original in my portfolio is made from a changed NEF (DSC_1109.nef) file. This version is made from the basic JPEG (DSC_1109.jpg) that is stored by the camera along with the NEF. The original was made with whitebalance extremes and this one is made with color mixing. The original has a very blue tint (not what is was in reality).

Exquisite! No need for comments, PERFECT. I love that you chose yellow instead of blue. I love the red in the sails. Another 10 - maybe you will get a perfect score.

Very beautiful photograph. The faded background really offsets the subject. I will be very interest to read the technical details of this photo. Well done!

Hmm, wierd but I like the odd colour sceme in this shot, normally I am very anal and want them neutral but this colour sceme works in this shot. Got a solid 7 from me.
