I woke up at 04:00 AM this morning...no alarm, just woke up...I tried to get myself together to shoot...half of me said don't bother....what are you going to shoot...and the other half said well at least try...so I hemmed and hawed and eventually went got dressed...took the camera and tripod and went out. Didn't have a clue what I would shoot and I had left myself only a half hour.

I went out the front door not expecting to see anything and there is another homeless person on the grate out front....I just didn't think twice about how to set up or compose. I walked down the street a bit, turned, set up the tripod and shot. Long exposures....6.5 to 8 seconds on 3 shot brackets of +/- 1/3....no one was else was around but me and the guy on the grate. Then a big city waste management truck came down the street and this was the result.

No I know I'll get heat about this because of the blowout from the lights of the truck as it came to the intersection and turned up the street. But I thought it gave an almost holy look to the steam coming from the grate and I like the shadows it produced as well. Wish I had more definition on the subject but his position was not something I could do much about. I doubt this will do well but it was at least, honestly shot at the time noted in the title.

I am amazed at the power this image has, and wish others could see what I can in this striking unforgettable scene ...

Sorry I didn't write this sooner, but that shot was a 10 in my opinion! It was startling and unreal, different from the usual images...just brilliant!

I liked this when I saw this and scored it above average.
Whoever said they didn't believe your time makes me wonder what in the WORLD they were thinking! LOL Glad you took this challenge literally, as well. Nice shot.

I can see someone on the ground, but other than that I'm really not sure what I'm looking at here. The photo needs to tell more of a clear story IMO.

A powerful suggestive title with a double powerful image. This is true art as photography at work. I am especially interested in the spectre of light that makes such a outstanding central point here. 9

this shot look like it was taken around 6 7 am. how i know if its true... check your light pole shadows.... or maybe its because you converted it to black and white image. the idea is interesting but the model did a not so good job i dont know if its a rat or garbage... the position of the car is nice but if i was driving 5 am in the morning my lights need to be on.... a black and white pic i need to see true blacks and true white otherwise its not black and white... the dodgeing that you did is too much there... thats the first thing i see in the picture and its distracting, you should allow it to come from the side or everywhere then make it go up in the air as if hes going to heaven and make it more dramatic....
the idea is nice the work needs a lot touching up
i gave you a good grade

The white light really overwhelms the picture. Great idea, the light hurts some

This is an incredible intense photograph..I love it! What a wonderful creative image..the figure on the ground draws my eye, yet that bright light also draws it...this is good...also I like the ambiguity of the figure on the ground...

you've definitely captured the spirit of the challenge, and, considering the limitations of basic editing, have done a great job with the post-processing. you might consider a reasonable black border, though, to help make the details pop. i will admit that i was biased to this shot by it being from philly (and that newspaper box is probably the one thing that takes away from the shot--it is more of the subject than the person on the ground!).
