Glad you like it...I always take a lot of photos whenever I go home to visit, as I now live out of the area.

There really wasn't much wind. I think smoke came out of the large stack with much greater force than the other stacks, causing the smoke to go straight up. Smoke from the other stacks seemed like it just floated around.

Okay, how the heck did you get the smoke on the left to bellow inward, the smoke on the right to also bellow inward. And the center stack to bellow it's smoke straight up!!!!

That's like near impossible without a cyclone....*lol*

for the challenge, I think you made the right choice. obviously you couldn't have done much better than you did! I like a couple of the other pix quite a bit but their emphasis on 'industrial' is not as strong - here the focus and message are razor sharp and obvious. congratulations on your ribbon for this fine image. the wind-blown smoke/steam is fascinating.

Although I personally liked the uncropped version a bit better, it is still an astounding photograph! Congrats on the ribbon!

very impressed with the huge DOF and how sharp even the nearest water is. The steam blowing multiple directions is interesting too.

If I had entered Industrial, this is the type of shot I'd use.
You chose the right time (still light in the sky).
Is the water frozen over ?

Good composition. The blend of natural and artificial light works very well. The interplay between the smoke and the sky is brilliant so are the reflections.

Cool shot .. interesting how the smoke seems to be going different directions all in the span of one exposure.. wondering how that could be.

Love how the reflections in the water mimic that of multiple towers when there exists one that main stackin the center of the shot that is blowing great plumes of smoke. Visually appealing to look upon. Night always turns what is by day a dirty dingy looking factory into something quite magical by night. Colors are wonderful too.

I like the way the steam is moving - it could have been croped tighter I think. I think there is too much sides and water. Th e water takes away from the steam which is more unusual.

8 - Wow. Great shot. Criticism; difficult, but given the 'smoke' adds so much in this shot, if possible, the inclusion of 'more' of that center one, even if it meant sacrificing some reflection (or possibly gaining both by a sharper perspective who knows), may have made this even better in my opinion. Lighting is good and colors are good, but would like to see the few colors that are there (as opposed to lights), ie; that green on the left, bolder, if possible. Good industrial shot.

Some intriguing shapes in the steam clouds - how strange that they are all going in different directions - must be some interesting wind currents! Makes for a fascinating image though composition doesn't feel balanced, left to right, for me. Either more space to the left so that the main interest is on the right hand side of the frame or less space there to make it more centred would work better for me.
