After the Challenge
To be honnest, I never expected this to win, it was a last minute submission.
The whole week we had a clear sky, and I wanted clouds. Just before the challenge started some clouds came in so I drove the 100Km again in the middle of the night to take this shot.
The water was moving to strong, so I used an extremely long shuttertime to get the reflection in the water.

Probably an airliner... easy touch-up, if needed.

Nope it's a star, it realy is, this is an 8 minutes exposure.
And yes, it's easy enough to touch up, but, well the basic editting rules forbid that.

Thanks for commenting.

lovely photo! i think that the windmill and bridge are more the focus of this picture than the reflection...at least, they demand more of my attention than the reflection. gorgeous colors in the sky.

Very colorful and well composed shot. The bridge just carries you to the windmill. The water has an unusually even blurring effect here... almost as if it was photoshop blurred. I would be very interested in how you accomplished it... DoF? a kind wind? Whatever you did, it made a great impact.

What exposure time did you use? I really like the soft effect of the water, which I can only assume was done with a long exposure time, but then the windmill couldn't have been spinning....

It's funny, someone mentioned this to me in one of my photos...you can't seem to have a sky photograph these days without having some sort of jetstream! In any event, I love the long exposure to smooth out the water here. A technique I need to start doing myself on certain photos.

10/20/2005 05:09:16 AM
I voted this as if it met the basic challenge as its very well done... if it wasn't the shimmering breeze that made the waterr (reflection) so nice ... what did you do to get that effect & the correct exposure on the railing?

Dude, are you at it again?

Assuming this is Peter again. :)

Don't have a lot to say other than that it matches the winning windmill from a few weeks ago. Very good.

Beautiful colours, good composition, a bit too 'soft' IMO and the little white airplane stripe above the mill distracts me. I would have liked it better if the reflection would be sharper.
