this really is an awesome shot ... the composition of the drops and the clarity work really well ... if you play with photoshop or some kind of program like that .. i'd be interested to see a mock up of the actual magazine idea that you were thinking with text placement and all :) - good to see you back and keep up the great work :)

Excellent shot, having done this type of shot before myself, I can appreciate the amount of effort and setup that goes into it. Id challenge any of the others here who posted its a rip off, cliche, or a Setz clone...to try to duplicate it with the wonderful results you got... nice work. :)

I just had to comment after reading the rant thread. In viewing the results for this challenge I found this entry to be one of the most interesting. I really like the idea of using bubbles to capture detail in anything, even the American flag (no offense intended). In this case the flag is not 'in your face' and therefore non-imposing or intrusive.

Well done.

The effect looks almost "painted" digitally in Photoshop. NICE EFFECT!

You should do this kind of shot for your own personal enjoyment. Entering it at dpc is guaranteed to hurt your score just by being "A Setzler"

very interesting idea! awesome!

Composition of background is what sets this apart from all the many similar shots we've seen recently. I think that this would work well as a cover. 8

Nice photo but it's been done. Good layout for a mag cover though. 8

Love it... and I've been kinda tired of all the flag stuff... this is fantastic!

Should be a winner! Beuatifully done and great idea. thanks

This is my favorite photo for this week . I gave you a ten . this is perfect!!!!

A strong photograph, and of course, the effects really pop out and scream wow. Nicely done!

A beautiful image and executed well. It is a good shot, but you are gonna get trashed by some people for the flag theme and "copying" setzler's classic shot.
06/14/2003 10:41:38 AM
the concept and idea is not original but you still captured the image very good. still got a high score.
06/14/2003 07:54:17 AM
The good old 'Setz effect'. While you make good use of it, it gets a little old...
06/14/2003 05:32:06 AM
Gotta love plagarism. You could of at least tried to make this picture slightly different to "Liberty and Justice", unfortunately for yourself I regard originality and some self-creativity quite highly when voting photos. This is almost an EXACT rip-off of possibly the most popular photo on DPChallenge.com
SHAME ON YOU.

great execution but i have seen this idea done lots of time. 9
06/13/2003 03:43:43 PM
I think that's about as good as it gets for that magazine. Cool shot.
06/13/2003 02:10:54 PM
gets me every time - I love this technique - 9
06/13/2003 01:11:14 PM
Very clever .. a 9 for me and a cert challenger i think
06/13/2003 02:28:12 AM
10. Nuff said. :)

Wow! a remake
06/12/2003 09:45:56 PM
I looked at this image quite a while. Technically it's very good and so is the appeal. My only problem with it is that water drops are over-used in our challenges. I probably would have scored it higher had I never seen this idea before. It's creative but not unique. 6
06/12/2003 06:01:27 PM
this has been done tooooooo often
06/12/2003 05:23:39 PM
It's been done before, but it still looks wonderful, excellent shot-10
06/12/2003 01:24:26 PM
If you are a newbie on this site, then excellent work. If not, I think we have had enough of those photos. I give you the benefit of the doubt in voting.

Wow. Of couse, it's been done before, but that doesn't mean that it can't be done again. I like the wavy look and the composition that anchors everything towards the right bottom corner. Can't find fault with this at all. 10
06/12/2003 09:19:21 AM
Good photo, but I really can't see this being on the cover of a news mag. Very cool reflections and focus.
06/11/2003 10:34:02 PM
I'm really impressed by the choice of this, although after "liquid" I admit I've seen enough liquids for a while. I'm not sure if they'd use this particular image or not because of how people would react, but it's well-shot and having the real flag blurred in the background adds interest.
06/11/2003 05:52:37 PM
Its A great Photo, but honestly "The Setz" Water Drops are getting Cliche' -
06/11/2003 05:07:16 PM
Gorgeous use of this type of photo. Excellent example. I'm not sure it really fits the magazine, but it's very well done. I think it could be the cover of a magazine just not necessarily the one you picked. beautifully done though!
06/11/2003 01:02:36 PM
Cool shot! I like how the flag is perfectly in focus inside the drops. Great execution of an old idea.
06/11/2003 12:12:02 PM
Nice take on an overdone technique. Seems to be a little abstract for the cover of US News and World Report. I could very definately be wrong since I don't look at every cover, but don't they usually put on shots of world leaders currently in the news?
06/11/2003 07:35:54 AM
Sorry, not very original, just a variation of someone else's photo
06/11/2003 01:32:37 AM
i"m sorry but this just is not very original. Have a look at the last few winners and you'll see this exact concept.
06/11/2003 01:01:18 AM
Not very original (there's a print for sale very very similar to this) but I can see it for a cover easy.
06/11/2003 12:34:43 AM
excellent shot.. = 10
