Taken at Culpeper National Cemetary, Culpeper, VA.

The last several days have been really grey and rainy on the East Coast, and while silently complaining about the weather, it occurred to me that grey skies look the same in color and black and white, and maybe there was a picture to be taken in this weather after all... It wasn't much more of a creative leap to get to this photo.

I lucked out, in that I got exactly the weather needed to pull this shot off... grey overcast. The picture was taken using a mini-tripod almost all the way on the ground. The greens and yelllows were removed in Photoshop leaving only the red and blue flags (the sky was already grey).

My eternally patient and helpful wife helped out, posing the flags, and giving me a tip on composition that made the image much better than my first try.

Other post processing: slight crop on both left and right sides, USM, resize.

Hope you enjoy!

This is a beautiful image. I think the selective desat works well. POV is excellent.

Good photograph but I don't see it as much pride as sadness.

i dont think the selective desat here, because the grass is all that reall desaturated and it looks funky...... however great angle/perspecting and super coloring in the flags 6

Great photo, very effective, especially adjusting to almost monochromatic.
Perspective, depth of field, composition, you got everything under control.
Superb!

of all the images that include a flag of some sort - this one is my favorite, good work :)

This is a great and powerful image. The headstones are too close to the left hand side. I think if this were a true selective desat it would be more powerful. Boost your levels to darken things a bit. It seems a bit washed out. 7
