Once upon a time in Jersey City New Jersey you could almost touch these two monstrosities. Some people didn’t like them; they thought they were an eyesore. Some people didn’t think they looked so nice out there; too cold too sterile, but there was no doubt the magnitude of power they represented. Like two big brothers watching over us they were always there and by looking at them you knew where you were.

They no longer guide us in our travels, they no longer keep watch over us, and they no longer offend anyone with their power. They are in our hearts and we can tell stories of the day when they stood like an obscene gesture to some in the world that power resided here. The power of those buildings will forever be remembered in the lives of the heroes who died to save so many that day and in the limbs and lives lost far away to avenge our losses and protect our children from those who despised that power of freedom and would do it again if they could.

I can't help it, I still need to remember and talk about it. I hope you all understand.

The small picture is of me and my daughter in the summer of 2000 at our visit to the park while the World Trade Centers still watched over us. I am standing at the same angle as the picture that is in my hands and if the World Trade centers were still there they would be on the left and right of the tall tower which is the Woolworth’s Building just to the right of the picture I am holding. Had they still been there they would not even have fit into this frame; that is how tall they were compared to the other sky scrapers in the picture which are about 60 stories. The World Trade Centers were about 101 stories.

Once upon a time we didn’t have to worry about tomorrow, today we do. Was it a fantasy then or is it a nightmare now? I don’t know, maybe both. I hope someday to find out which is true but for today I continue to remember. My daughter is still with me; I did not lose her, I did lose someone else and if you want to know about it go see my Perspective II entry. Be well and tell the ones you love that you do.

this photo could have been better if there is only one focal point. it seems to me there are three.

somber and powerful - great facial expression (probably would have been a better shot at dusk or dawn for the lighting)

I love this! The twin towers are visible in your photo. I only hope and pray the woman in the photo was not a victim. If so, my deepest heartfelt sympathies.
