The scary part is that this is the way that he usually dresses...

Title a somewhat obscure Douglas Adams reference.

A builder's light in back of him, a flashlight from the other side of the road on his face, a car with just the parking lights on, and a lot of cooperation for very little reward...

Thanks, peeps!

Heh. Well, I think that the white streaks are actually the builders' light reflecting off the silver car, not the headlights. I tried it with headlights, but I thought that the light was too focused - there were just two really bright white lines going through the picture. The parking lights only gave a much better effect. I think that the pattern at the bottom of the light streaks is the builders' light on the hubcaps, or some part of the wheel. Not sure how he managed to stand so still for 3.4 seconds...I really thought when I was finished with it that he looked incredibly stiff and unnatural, which is the biggest reason I ended up cropping out his feet. But no one commented on that, so I guess it must have just been me.

Great shot, perfect exposure/framing/etc. Very well done.

Good idea. Like fill flash for subject. Cars are a bit too blurred to help with concept of title. Tough shot to get and combine. Well done

in the thumbnail, this looks like it is going to be something involving welding. i find this to be a very interesting and arresting image. Kudos to the model for keeping so still for the duration of the exposure.i'm trying to piece together what the repeating shape is under the beam of light. i think if i can figure out the direction of travel of the vehicles, i will understand. i would not pick this guy up unless Gandalf and Obi Wan were with me in the car.

Creative, I like "9"

WOW!
06/14/2002 01:49:00 PM
Nice use of blur to isolate your subject.
06/14/2002 11:31:00 AM
Cool effects!
06/14/2002 05:07:00 AM
Excellent work. The sparks are a great effect, and light up the guy's outline really nicely.
06/13/2002 04:25:00 PM
but where is his towel?!! cool picture--i think this is a very good reference to the book---that could totally be a spaceship!
06/13/2002 10:37:00 AM
how did you find a guy with a light sabre for a peenie?
06/13/2002 09:37:00 AM
The more I look at this one, the more I like it.

Great shot, and I *LOVE* the title.

I don't really know why, but this photo is one of my 10s this week. I think you did an excellent job with this long exposure. You did a great job of keeping the hitchhiker in focus without blur. I REALLY would like to see a little more back lighting in this photo.. there is enought there to highlight the hitchhiker's back but I think that if the guitar case was accented a little more, there would be much more impact in this photo. You really have to look twice to even notice that it's there... Kudos on a fine job!
06/12/2002 11:25:00 AM
Very nice composition!

This turned out really cool. I like the light focused on the person's face and thumb. Cool motion with the car. almost looks like a rocket! Nice!
06/11/2002 08:29:00 PM
Captures the mood well. Well executed photograph.
06/11/2002 05:12:00 PM

Almost too dark, but still very well executed.
06/11/2002 11:16:00 AM
Great Shot! Nice use of light!
06/11/2002 10:57:00 AM
Wow, I'm really impressed how sharp you got this to turn out. I would have expected more blur on the hand and arm. The burst of light is great as well...
06/11/2002 09:55:00 AM
Very interesting!
06/11/2002 09:31:00 AM
I really like the way the light zips across the shot. I am left wondering how you managed to illuminate the forward side of the face, look forward to hearing about it in the forums. There are a couple of VERY small flash's of light that are a little distracting, but overall a very good photograph IMO.
06/11/2002 09:20:00 AM
awesome! What is that?
06/11/2002 03:41:00 AM
you shouldn't try hitching rides on super-light speed vehicles :D
06/11/2002 01:27:00 AM
this background is way to dirty, are they compression artifacts, or noise for the camera? Learn your medium. But this was interesting. I am going to give it an 8
06/10/2002 09:42:00 PM
nice lighting---good work
06/10/2002 08:16:00 PM
Too dark, too blurry
06/10/2002 08:00:00 PM
Awesome!
06/10/2002 05:26:00 PM
This is a great picture! I love the way the lights stream by while the hiker remains stationary. Again, GREAT PHOTO!
06/10/2002 03:53:00 PM
Is this a hitchhiker with a car blazing by? If so, slow down that shutter speed a little. Its nice to see the trail, but not so bad that we can't make it out. I'm really confused at what this picture could be if its not what I said.
06/10/2002 03:52:00 PM
Neat shot. Well done.
06/10/2002 02:09:00 PM
Very creative. Looks like my duster.
06/10/2002 05:39:00 AM
My ass.
06/10/2002 12:39:00 AM
Perfect in every way.
