This picture is what i had intended in my head from the start. Although at the begining, i wanted to make it with a Corrona Beer bottle and some colored water to match the bottle, time was of the essence as i didn't have time or money to make fake ice. So instead, 12$ of real ice were used. So cold... ahhh

Anyways, I bought a used fish tank for the shot, which i acquired at a very cheap price. Unfortunatly, the windows were slightly dirty and scratched (behond cleaning and fixing), so that explains the small impurity in the picture, mostly around the bawls bottle. This also explains the hazy looks, even tho this shot was done with a flash unit.

The shot consisted of my girlfriend Marie, having lots of patience with me, dropping the bottle in the tank and using her other hand to 'splash up' some water at the same time. It took about 2 hours to get it right, after more then 200 shots.

Overall, this was a good experience, one i wish to perfect later, with fake ice and a better window (crystal clean) and perharps, with a better background (double exposition), most likely.

In the end, although this was a good experience, i am not satisfied with the shot, unfortunatly. I was hoping for better quality in the image, which couldn't be attained, mostly due to this challenge being an 'open Challenge' entry, where spot editing was done.

As for the technical aspect is concerned, i used a AlienBees SB800 Flash Unit with a big Softbox on top to make light even. Another Flash unit from the top left to make a contrast with the ice and better reflect on the bottle (a strip like would've been awesome here) and finally, another Flash unit from the bottom to light up the ice.

post prod included every ounce of ideas and layer adjustments i could think of. Levels, Hues, Curves, Brightness, Overlay high pass and some USM. The result is 'ok', but really frustrating because of the poor quality of the fish tank used. AHHH...

Thanks for voting... i'm hoping for a top 30 on this shot.

Thanks guys, i really appreciate this! Although i'm really scared of a DQ right now. I really pushed the limits on the rules of Open challenge to get this result, i hope i didn't cross to the darkside, would be a shame.

I really appreciate all the nice comments i got so far, this really helps me better my photography, which is the point of being here!

Well your efforts certainly paid off... congrats on your first ribbon! When you put up 6+ scoring entries this consistently, the result is inevitable. ;-)

Wow. This rocks. Didn't get a chance to vote on it. Woulda given a 10. I LOVE that bottle! After this challenge, I have decided I will buy bottles that look good in pictures.

The colour, motion and contrast make this picture. I am not bothered by the imperfections brought from the aquarium.

You've got one amazing girlfriend. Go give her a kiss!

Now THIS is truly refreshing. This is the only photo I really like of all the Beverage entries.

Looks like it was a bit blurred and then sharpened, which left some noise, particularly around the bottle.

Great. A pity that the bottle looks unsharp - 9

if it was just a little bit crisper-a little bit clearer/in focus-this would be a great image.
As it is, it's still really good, just one step away from excellent!

Pretty cool shot, excellent colours and looks very much like an advertisement, only thing I dislike is that the bottle seems a little moved or out of focus but not by much and I gave this an 8, excellent work.
