Although a great photograph, it is not really rule of thirds. The main focus of the picture must fall within the bisection of the lines that divide the image. A shallower DOF would of allowed you to move the main focus of the photo to one of those bisecting points.
Now forgetting about the rule of thirds here, you did an excellent job of getting this close to the hopper. It is a wonderful photo full of colour and contrast. |

The center of interest for me is his eye and shoulder, and the way the photo is cropped it does not demonstrate the rule of thirds. |

Wow. This is one of the best macros I've seen. Long DOF and focus centre is perfect. |

Great macro. The sand almost looks like boulders here. The eye is in perfect placement of the grid of the horizontal and vertical lines in the rule of thirds. Not the most interesting shot with the color scheme, but a good effort nonetheless. Good detail and clarity on the grasshopper. |
