Not sure what harsh light means, his face is right on to me. Yes shadows do appear, but not much I could do about them with onboard flash and too dark for no flash. I do appriciate your comments. Van

a good shot, but i think the angle is unfortunately cropping alot of the expression on his face out. also, the current colours in this shot are making the image blend into itself. i think if this shot was converted to b&w, it would have a lot more aesthetic value (realize this is a colour contest). perhaps draping a black piece of fabric against the wall would have helped isolate the green of the shirt, instead of blending in with the wall. 4/10

Interesting photo, the lighting is nice, casting the shadows.

The lighting is a bit harsh and the subject seems a bit out of focus (or could be my aging eyes), but I like the concept.

The light is pretty harsh, but a nice expression on the boy's face. Good colors.

This is more a photograph of a boy doing his homework and not beign happy about it than a portrait.

Really a nice shot. My only 2 issues lie with the harshness of the shadows from the flash. One: on the hand and arm and pencil and Two: the desk and that tiny bit of shadow is distracting. Good portraiture rids itself of harsh shadows.

I do like the set up and that child looks "thrilled" (hehe) to be doing homework. Nice penmanship, btw.
