As a picture -- The composition of this is absolutely wonderful. I love how the cat is peeking out at you, and looks very intent on staying there. The bw is a bit "muted" in that it is all kind of a flat gray with the exception of the eye. Maybe adjusting the contrast some could help that. Grain being added typically doesn't bother me, if it helps a shot, but in this one, I can't see what it particularly adds. It may have been a bit too much.

For this challenge -- In a cats or pets challenge, this shot, as is would probably net you around a mid-5 (voters typically don't like grain). With proper exposure, so that it is "clear," this shot probably could net you a solid "6" score, I would think. For the shot to "branch" this far off the challenge , you did well to score as well as you did with your stretch.

Good work. You've obviously got a good eye for composition, and that will go a long way. Welcome to the trenches of dpc, and best wishes on your future entries!!

I'd like to thank everyone that took the time to comment and vote for my photo. I didn't think it would do very well because of the grain that I added. Oh well, it's a start, and this was my first challenge entry. I appreciate all the feedback that I received, and hope to learn from them. Bye folks.

You could be right about a late entry. I hadn't really taken anything purposely for the challenge. This was a photo I already had that fit into the time bracket. As for the grain, it was intentional. The original shot was of poor quality due to low light, so I added some extra grain to sort of hide the mistakes. I know it's not a great quality shot, but the pose is very cute. Thank you for your vote and for leaving a comment. I will try better for the next challenge.

For those of us with cats - a very apt title.

Wow, great cat portrait. I don't mind the grin/noise in this because it in a way adds a nice art feel. Feel the branch connection might be a little thin, so pic scores high, challnge scores low

Aside from the blantant misunderstanding of the expression "branching out", from a purely technical standpoint the focus is off. The fur and whiskers should have been caught pin-sharp. The composition however is charming.

Cute yet a little scary.

A little too far outside the box for me.

This shot almost makes me like cats! It looks grainy, though.

Focus not sharp enough to capture the reflections in the eye. Great concept... worth trying again!

What a great picture.
I think you will lose out for forcing it in to the challenge with the title.
I still love it though
Good luck
