Thanks for all the comments everyone. I really appreciate it. I didn't expect this photo to do that well because I don't think most people view this as what is typically known as a "portrait" but it was the closest thing I got while visiting Vietnam during that period so I edited it on a public computer and submitted it. The colors and contrast wasn't exactly what I was going for on the uncalibrated monitor but it's close enough =) Thanks again.

This boy belongs to a small fishing village on Mieu Island off the coast of Nha Trang, Vietnam. He was asking people if they wanted to ride in his basket-boat made out of bamboo for money. All the other kids seemed to be having fun but he seemed very sad.

This looks like a very powerful picture. The look in his eyes takes you to another place or perspective. His wet hair and the droplets on the water enhance this effect.

I can not belive how low this wonderful shot ended? I thought this one would be a ribbon, best one of the lot. And for some reason all the icelandic people seem to love it (me included), maybe you should move to Iceland...

One of the best photos in this challenge, sadly most others couldn't see it! Great photo!

What the f* hell is going on here?! Should have been in top 3, top 10 acceptable but this is simply ridiculous. My favorite, at least you still have that.

Very good photograph. I like the spare, empty composition ... it reinforces the expression of disquiet on the face of the primary subject. And the inclusion of the second boy, whose body language also suggests uncertainty, completes the picture, literally. This is the work of a photographer who understands what he/she is doing. 9.

I feel your subject is too far down in your frame and the boy in the background appears too close to the one in front to make this composition work well. The expression and light on his face make it an interesting photograph.

Very different portrait, the seems so deep.

I find the four dark corners a bit distracting, but I like your off centered subject matter.

Excellent candid shot of these boys in the rain. I like the subdued lighting. This composition to me has a journalistic approach to it which I like. Well done.

I like the boy in front and the background. However, a portrait should be about one person or a group. Tthe second person does not have anything to do with the subject which, to me, keeps this from being a portrait.

Good Picture. The open space works seems to compliment the picture. Nice job!

They look so serious... where was this pic taken? Viginetting? What's the story behind this scene, sure it's an interesting one.

Wonderful shot, looks a bit like a shot from wold press photo (a compliment!). Love the background and the positioning of the boys, the best shot I've seen in a while. Going to my favorites, you should make it print ready.

Another nice emotive candid. Doesn't seem like a portrait to me.

Not speaking portrait to me, but more snapshot. I like the expressions just not formal enough to score high in this challenge though.
