Challenge: High Contrast (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
Location: Sheboygan, Wisconsin - Lake Michigan
Date: Sep 4, 2005
Aperture: f14
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Landscape, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Sep 4, 2005

Taken in Sheboygan, Wisconsin as the sun got low. Taken in RAW and converted with Rawshoter. Boosted saturation and contrast then converted to B&W in channel mixer. Extensive dodging and burning, crop and resize.

Sure there will be a great number of good monchrome images but this was fun to visualise and then to execute. Maybe will get a decent score. I'd give it 7 so we'll have to see!

Compsition: wonderful composition and an unusual perspective but i think i would have liked to have seen more of the actual lake than the lake bank.

Lighting: natural light is always a wonderful choice is done at the right times like you did here so congrats..lighting is great.

Focus: I also love the deep DOF here as it give the feeling of really being there in person. I can almost feel the breeze and smell the lake so wonderfully done here!

color: while this is a great monochrome photo for your portfolio i do not feel this is an actual High Contrast photo. there looks to be alot of variations of grey rather than a strong black and white difference. maybe trying to adjust the curves and the contrast a bit more would have made this photo meet the challenge better IMHO.

This is truly a great photo! You should be very proud.

~~ please take my suggestion and opinion for that and nothing more. I do not claim in any way to be a professional or even an experienced photographer. I will simply (and I try to be as gentle and considerate as possiable) state my view. If you have any questions or wish for me to explain my view more clearly please dont hesitate to pm me. Beautiful landscape! I love the deep DOF, contrasty black/white tones, and the overall depth and feel of the image. This is by far my favorite of the challenge--10 from me, and it's going in my favorites. Congrats.

Nice work. A little grainy in the sky, but overall very nice photo.

Nice leading line here. The contrast is there not only in light and dark tones but the contrast between the rocky edge and the smooth water.

I like the point of view of your shot and for me, there is a good use of high contrast - especailly on the left half of your photo. Well done.

Not too shabby, unfortunately the rock in direct front is not very interesting to look at so close and so much of, but I like the rest of the rock following around. Either way the water stands out with a good reflection.

Too much gray for a high contrast considering the miniscule amount of white. This subject was always going to be very difficul to leave any of the detail without using gray
