This was a difficult challenge. Trying to find a branch that was interesting by itself without a distracting backround was next to impossible. I tried to think of other types of branches like a branch in the road, a river or even a bank branch. I decided the only way to pull off an interesting picture was to add another captivating element. I captured this immature male rubythroat hummingbird perching in the butterfly bush in my backyard. I took a multitude of shots before I found one that I felt was good enough to enter. I really like the backround and lighting in this one as well as the way he is positioned on the branch. Hope you like it too.
The picture was not cropped. It was slightly sharpened, increased contrast just a bit and Neat Image was used to smooth it out.

Nice one! Not that easy to capture these little guys or even find them once they've landed. The background is a bit dark but It helps to bring out the hummingbird.

This is a cool picture but I think it focuses more on the bird than on the branch. But hey, we all do it. nice job! I like the colors.

Nicely done! I do wish the bird wasn't so centered though....

I like small birds. Focus is a little off; colors would be richer.

Very well caught, nicely composed, balancing the delicacy of the bird with an equally delicate line of the branch. I do worry that the bird has stolen the limelight here though.

Great Shot! Too bad it's beak isn't on the other side of the branch. Still a "10" to me.

Accomplished shot. a little levels boost might have brought out the bird more as the whole image is a little dark. It's a shame about the diagonal twig it's a bit distracting. Giving a 6 for the sharp focus on the birds head.
