Greetings from the Critique Club:

What a delightful image this is. Beautiful lighting going almost the full range from dark to light. It looks as if the voters didn't think the range was enough to quality for "high contrast" but I do.

Regarding the composition, I would suggest that you look at this image cropped considerably at the right side. Off-center placement is usually a good technique and can draw interest to the subject. In this case, the off-center is nearly Half and Half subject and blank space. That (I think) is a bit too much. Actually, this image is so strong on its own, if you placed the fruit and glasses full frame, making an essentially square picture, it would be extremely effective.

In any case, whether or not it "fits the challenge" your lighting is exquisite.

Good luck in future Challenges.

Delicate photo here. Unusual choice of light. I think its very classy.

Nice composition and highlights. Not sure about the bauble though. 8.

If there was a bit more lighting or...highlights I would have scored this higher. nice composition, but the shadows are a bit too overpowering for me.

I'll be honest and say that I don't understand the title really, not sure what elements you are refering to unless its natural vs man-made. So I'll skip that. I like the simplicity of the image, the lighting is nice. I'm not too crazy about the all black background since it seems to create areas that details are lost. Also I'm not sure about the focus either - it seems a bit soft on the fruits and since that's where some very rich color is coming from, as a viewer I'd like them to be a bit sharper. That said, if a soft focus was intentional for those parts, then I'd prefer more light available to bring out the full roundness of the fruits as a counterbalance to that lack of focus. I think the composition is good, the reflection of the orange in the bottom of the one glass is a tad distracting, but there's not much you could do about that really. I gave a 5.

Nice idea, I would have voted higher with maybe a little more light in the shot.

Fantastic still life...one of the best I've seen at DPC... but not really high contrast

Really beautiful composition and lighting. There appears to be an odd shaped lighter area around some of the objects (that looks like processing remnants) that is distracting, but that's really the only thing I can find negative about the shot. Very nice job overall.

The offcentering to create the empty black space doesn't really work for me in this photo. I do like the soft lighting on the objects.

There are some soft tones over this photo that I don't like. And the thing in the midle (silver ball) is distracting.

From my understanding of what high contrast image is, this does not fit the bill. It's very dark throughout with the slightest of light on your subjects. I find this to be a dark photo rather than a high contrast photo.
