 Three cotton masks set on a table. Lit by a single 550EX above and off to the left of the masks. I used the 100mm lens to compress the image as much as possible and set the main focus on the centre mask leaving the outer masks just outside the dof.

PS work:
Curves, Brightness & Contrast
Some dodge and burn to remove the elastic fastener and smooth inside the eyes.

Thought this would finish higher, but in such a saturated field of great shots, I would take 18th place in a heartbeat! Congrats on your top 20 finish!

Fantastic idea and very well executed. Perfectly meets the challenge. My only issue with the image is the texture of the masks. It may sound odd, but the fact that they are fuzzy (in texture, not focus) doesn't seem to match the feel/mood of the shot. I envision something hard and smooth. Still, very strong entry.

This photo is one of the bestcompositions I've seen. The lighting is incredible but no more than the excellent shadows. Interesting and emotive! 10 and my newest favorite.

puting the middle one in white and the two othera in shadow would make it from good to great photo of high contrast.. still.. i love the idea and composition..8

Great shadowplay and primo lighting set up. I'd like to know if this is indeed through Layer masks in photoshop, or if three masks were actually set up.
